How are election disputes resolved in the U.S?

Here in kenya we had the first closest and most disputed democratic election. Our country is a young democracy. alot of killings, protest and lootings have happened since the results were announced. Even the electoral commision has cofesses that it doesnt know who won the elections http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/news/display.var.1938771.0.I_dont_know_who_won_says_chief_of_Kenyan_election_body.php. the courts here take more five years to resolve election cases. if the same thing happenned in the U.S , how could they resove it?

  1. Crazy court judgments.
  2. In 2000, the Supreme Court basically appointed Bush as president; the vote count got down to a few hundred (out of tens of millions), and the court stopped the recount and said Bush had won.
  3. Depends on where in the U.S. the election is held. In the case of Gore vs. Bush in 2000 the Supreme Court had to step in and stop the Florida Supreme Court from making up election law for the sole purpose of dragging out the process until Gore had enough votes to win.
