Is Mitt Romney a good choice for Black people?

Mitt romney is a member of the mormon religion whos doctrine teaches that blacks were "less valiant" spirits in what Mormons believe to have been a pre-earth existence. Church leaders have taught for 175 years that being born with black skin and features (the mark of Cain) was punishment by God for their "less than faithful" actions. Based on this doctrine, the Mormon Church prohibited blacks from holding the LDS Priesthood until 1978 when it lifted the ban. Mitt romney was 31 when the ban was lifted in 1978 that means he supported this doctrine before it was banned, i think if he supported this doctrine he is not a candidate that black people can trust.

  1. Damn i didn't know that, i will definitley not vote for someone who thought this way.
  2. I think Blacks in America should be very wary of all GOP candidates.
  3. Mitt Romney is not a good choice for anyone.
  4. Dude if you are a Black Republican you need help.
  5. Even if he is racist, what can he do against black people without getting impeached? Besides, what you're implying is that everyone who was a Mormon in 1978 is racist, and that's not true.Just because the church leaders in that time were racist, doesn't mean all the followers of the religion were. If I were Catholic, and the Catholic church was racist, I wouldn't stop being Catholic, even though I wouldn't share the racist beliefs. Although I don't support Mitt Romney, I definitely don't believe he's racist.
  6. The guy above me is delusional, how can you be a "follower" of a religion and not believe in it's doctrine?i think thats the problem with religious people they pick and choose what to believe and in the end make the religion more corrupt than it already is. Mitt romney is not in the best interest of anyone especially black people, and he can do things to affect black people look at bush and hurricane Katrina.
  7. I believe that his religion will be an issue and it should be because it goes to what he is thinking. I would say Obama? But it does seem to me that clinton did more for blacks when he was in office than any other president besides Kennedy. I do not believe that Republicans are good for blacks. they are good for big business and for oil barrons. But rarely concern themselves with issues that directly affect black Americans. However the respect i have for Opray as a do gooder and a knowledgeable person, and she recommends Obama. Do we want a Babtist preacher as president? Another religious extremists. Or a morman who actually looks down on minorities. Or gulliane who is already known to be stealing funds from the government. another crook. Didn't we have enough of them in the White house already? Or the worse yet, McCain who sounds like Bush reincarnated.
  8. I'm not a big Mitt fan. I appreciate his faith, but don't agree with the Mormon teachings. I'm an old, white, Jewish woman, and support Obama. America needs a new vision, not old doctrines.
  9. You have totally misstated modern Mormon belief on this question. Most churches have a past history of discrimination (Catholics discriminated against Jews and Muslims in the middle ages, southern Protestants discriminated against African Americans in the 18th and 19th centuries, some Muslims have discriminated against "infidels" in recent years, etc). Unfortunately, in the past (before I was born), Mormons taught some of the same things about blacks that Southern Protestants taught (Curse of Cain/Ham, etc) and so did not allow blacks to hold leadership positions in the church. Unlike Southern Protestants, however, Mormons never segragated their congregations and always taught that blacks could go to heaven. However, all that changed decades ago. Modern Mormonism is very much opposed to discrimination of any kind. Ironically, many who discriminate against us (professional anti-Mormons) hypocritically accuse us of being discriminators! The Mormon Church is not a racist church. I'm Mormon, and my wife is black. We were married in a Mormon temple, where the officiator told us that God approved of our marriage. My wife is treated well at church, as are the other African American members of our congregation. I've had a black bishop in several different Mormon congregations of which I've been a member. Many anti-Mormons, however, intentionally misrepresent Mormon teachings in an attempt to discredit Mormonism. I've written about this type of discrimination on my site at http://www.allaboutmormons.com/brief_critique_anti-mormon_propaganda.php .
