Does Ron Paul Fill His Own Blimp?
Why don't interviewers actually make Ron Paul sit down and explain in detail his "ideas", and how they would work? Why is he off the hook after 10 second sound bites? My opinion is that if he talked TOO long, he'd sound as foolish as Ross Perot did, when HE tried to explain the libertarian creed to the world. I don't think you CAN explain libertarianism, even to a libertarian. What do you think about "grilling" candidates on TV who make facile, sweeping comments, until they can actually explain what they mean, even if it takes 1/2 hour of air time? This could apply to ANY candidate. Shouldn't debates be longer and way more detailed?
Public Comments
- No. He has Kucinich do it for him.
- Well, I disagree with your politics; but you raise a good point. ...The American people don't have the time/ attention span to get heavily involved in politics these days. That's why politicians, Republican or Democrat, are free to run rampant with the country...It's the people's fault.
- the problem is actually reverse - the media has failed to report on pauls ideas and plans accurately -if they gave him the time he needs to discuss his plans the majority of americans would see its common sense - why do you think ron paul supporters flood yahoo answers and response pages of media all over the net ?- its because they want to correct many misconceptions about pauls plans - if you are really interested in what pauls plans are go to http://www.ronpaullibrary.com yes I think to limit any candidates response to 30 seconds is not enough to get a detailed and accurate response and it is a shame people will vote based on 30 second sound bytes
- You raise an interesting point.. I am a staunch Libertarian, and yes I can explain my political beliefs and mantras to the world.. simply put- we believe that we should have the MOSTamount of personal freedoms that we can have, with the least amount of Government interaction/regulating. Ron Paul's ideas are revolutionary, and yes, some seem a little too daunting to do in the short term (ie. abolish the IRS, good idea but requires immense amounts of planning to do this properly. However, wouldnt a flat rate income tax be a much better system? less tax breaks for the rich, etc.... ) Ron Paul's ideas arent understood because he cant get the camera time. Romney gets a solo news conference to discuss Mormonism... but Paul cant get 15 seconds to explain his gun law beliefs or tax reform... sad that we are a 2 party system in America. Sadder still is that Oprah campaigning for Barrack Obama draws larger crowds of know-nothing-about-politics stay at home moms who make the trip to see obama speak because "Oprah said so". Ron Paul needs star power to help him out, Ron Paul is far from a fool, tho his physical stature and voice make him seem like he is... sad to say that we actually do base our votes on what the leaders look like, even if it is sub consciously... Paul is a medical doctor who studied and got into politics when he saw a big need for some reform. My point is, Obviously what we have in office now isnt working... democrats aren't going to have the balls to change things.. we should start afresh with a new party and see if it can lead us anywhere that is positive. FYI, ron paul is in favor of exiting Iraq now and using the troops to secure our borders. This plan makes SO much sense to me that I can't see why people dont want to hear more of it.....
- You bring out a very good point. My opinion is; The mass media has taken a cue from the old movies. Hide or over dramatize some important facts from the viewers, so the viewers have to watch the movie again to understand the movie plot. If they want the viewer to remember something they show it over and over again until the viewer is sick of seeing it. If they want to control a viewers opinion on a subject, they very briefly touch on the subject, without allowing time for a follow up explanation, leaving the viewer more confused than ever about the subject matter.....Which in turn gives the viewer a very negative opinion on the solution to a quickly touched on subject. Example: Ron Paul wants to abolish the I.R.S.! Everybody that's been following the coming elections has heard this. What they haven't heard is how Ron Paul will get the money to run the federal government. Very simply by re-instating tariffs & an excise tax that worked well for over 100 economically prosperous years, in the old USA......without any personal income tax! Hint; The Ron Paul army researches the internet on their own to find the solutions to better understand the Ron Paul political platform.......Which in reality is simply Thomas Jeffersons {The founder of Republicanism} political platform !!! Thanks for the question. ****************************************************** [edit] To Mr. Jam, on metallic money: Ron Paul wants to support competing types of money, to offset the Fed's almost monopolistic control and value of U. S. dollars. Some metallic systems are already in operaton: http://www.goldmoney.com/ Of course the Fed will do anything in their power to scare the public away from using a competing currency......When they, themselves have circumvented the U.S. Constitution, to the point where the U.S. Treasury is supposed to control the dollars, under the strict guidence of Congress.....Who by the way, are the only government body, according to the Constitution, that is allowed to set a "VALUE" on U.S. dollars. ******************************************************
- I think Ron Paul has written a lot of his ideas and suggestions in paper/electronic form, for anyone to peruse on the web. Why do you think supporters of his know so much? He gets very little airtime, but is able to get a lot of ideas, and suggestions out there, hoping that people take the time to research him. I don't think TV is the best way to "research" a candidate, it's one of the ways to get an idea of who's running, and a little bit about them. Keep your actual research unfiltered by avoiding "pundits" that try to characterize, or character assassinate a candidate. I read Hillary's healthcare plan, and I don't agree with it, and feel it's unworkable. I read Joe Biden's plan for Iraq, and it seems OK, but not exactly the correct thing to do at this time. I've read and listened to rally speeches of many candidates, and find most of them repulsive, and often contradictory. If you think large blimps are filled with hot air, you are wrong, it's usually helium, and there is nothing "light" about the hard hitting questions Ron Paul raises. And a little bit of light reading won't hurt. If you go looking for negative points, you will find them, but keep in mind who wrote it, and for what agenda. When Ross Perot ran, for which I was almost too young to care about, he showed charts, he was correct about a lot of things, maybe it was over the top for television audiences. There was no internet at the time, and most information was from the media. When Hillary was asked "Ross Perot was fiercely against NAFTA. Knowing what we know now, was Ross Perot right?", what was her reaction? It was of false ignorance. She laughed it off w/o answering the question, and said "hee hee, all I remember was a bunch of charts". Ross Perot was technically correct in his predictions. Had she answered even that question like "Unfortunately, yes in a way he was... We lost a lot of jobs, manufacturing, outsourcing, and illegal immigration shot up" I would have gained tremendous respect for Hillary Clinton. She had the gall to laugh about it. Watch the documentary "Spin" by Brian Springer on google video for an interesting take on his candidacy. Watch how Larry King, and other media personalities worked behind the scenes, from intra-station satellite feeds.
- I watched a 15 minute interview with him last night. I think he talked for about 10 minutes too long. He tried to tell those of us watching about how we have to get back on the metal standard. However, he mentioned NOTHING about HOW to do it. Why? Because he either doesn't really want to, it's just a quick sound bite that works on a lot of people because pretty much everyone knows our monetary system is a mess, or he DOES know, KNOWS how it would cause inflation that would make Pres. Carter look like Adam Smith, and would collapse this country, but is unwilling to tell this people that because well, no one wants to tell people that they are the Harbinger of Death. He wants to close down overseas military bases. And talked about it for more than just 30 seconds. When he went into why and how, it showed a very clear failure in his idea of foreign policy. He went on to talk about the IRS. Well, the excise tax, user fees, import taxes, etc, etc, SOUND like a good idea. Of course, how is he going to do it? Well, I guess it's just up to us to elect him and then he can show us. It must be like an extra special secret that only the REAL inside Ron Paul supporters know about, and they can't tell because they pinky-swore on it. Trust me. You Ron Paul supporters really DON'T want him talking longer than 5 minutes to anyone who isn't under the Ron Paul Spell. We tend to ask hard questions on his high-flying ideals, and we don't accept, "Magic" as the answer to how is he going to do it. But as for the main question, no. Ron Paul doesn't. His supporters do. Why talk when you can have your drones do all of your talking?
- No, blimps are filled with helium, not hot air. Ron Paul has no chance. I don't care how many thumbs down I get. Vote for Rudy!
- Joe, Ron has AUTHORED several books thru his years on fiscal/monetary policies. Go to Amazon.com & type in Ron Paul. I believe Dr. Paul has one publication out on this subject at current & should be on the best selling list. If Ron's suggestion of a gold backed currency plus a decentralized banking system is so bogus an idea, why did it once work in so short of time to raise the greatest country in recorded human history??? Why do you think countries like China & the EEC are hoarding all the gold they can get their hands on? NO paper currency has EVER survived with out the backing of a valuable commodity. You need to ACTUALLY research this subject in depth so you can better appreciate our current situation that ALL Americans are now going through at present.
