Tell me everything you know (opinions included) about Ron Paul?

I have always been liberal, never supported the Republican party. I am undecided who I will be voting for. Lately I have been noticing the "Ron Paul Revolution" in my town. This morning I viewed this link: http://www.ronpaulishope.com/ Now, my question you you- should I mistrust the man because I have always mistrusted the party? Or should I open my heart and see beyond the boundries of liberal, republican, democrat? I am truly interested in your opinions, so please feel free to say anything and everything. Thanks! de viking- it's uncalled for to take this chance to make a personal attack against someone you do not even know.

Public Comments

  1. I like to think of Ron Paul, not as a Republican or a Democrat, but as a consitutionalist who loves his country.
  2. he hasn't got a chance -- really would u want him in the White House?? look closer at Rudy or McCain -- think about it -- do ur really think Hillary is the one ??? hard being a liberal isn't it -- learn to use ur brain to make decisions for urself
  3. Ron Paul could be called a libertarian, someone who thinks people should be free to live their own lives with minimal interference from government. The only proper role of government is to protect people from force and fraud. He supports free market capitalism, which is something that most liberals find frightening. He wants to eliminate the IRS and personal income taxes, something that is complete opposite of the Marxists in the Democratic party. People aren't property of the government, and should be able to keep the money they earn. Good for you, willing to look at different ideas.
  4. Ron Paul is the best fresh breath in presidential politics since Ross Perot, but the difference is he has a consistent stand on issues and doesn't have the raspy voice that eventually put a lid on Perot's support. I voted for Ross Perot in 1992 and in 1996. I will vote for Ron Paul in 2008. I will never, ever vote for the pretty boy, rock star frontrunners promoted by the lamestream media.
  5. Well, you shouldn't feel like you left your party because that is where Ron Paul belongs...with the democrats. My opinion, the man hasn't got a chance but if you want to vote for him go for it. It takes one more democrat vote from Hillary or Obama.
  6. thats the great thing about elections, you can vote for whoever you want. remember this person will be responsible for the country. i dont like anyone cuz there all fake but Paul seems to be the only person who really cares. thats why i like him. nevermind hillary and guiliani they deserve to be president as much as action hero Arnold Swartzenegger. its just publicity. Reagan had good "face" and was a pretty good president but his vice president was Bush Sr. and thats why little bush acts the way he does. its all acting. Lets GET SOMEONE real in the White House for a change.
  7. Ron Paul is an extreme isolationist who wants to dismantle the vast majority of the institutions of government and go back to a government with almost no monetary or social support structure and should therefore not be taken seriously as a candidate IMO. However, He has been treated with shameless disrespect by FOX News and the Republican party not for this reason (Which at least I could understand) - But because his position on Iraq (That we should never have gotten in and should get out completely and immediately) is the correct one. The fact that Paul has raised more money from troops in Iraq than any of the other Republican in the field illustrates how correct he is on that point perfectly; IMO. But Paul just really doesn't have that much support outside of his near worshipful followers on the internet. In straw polls where the internet is not involved, Paul has generally performed poorly and still registers low single digits in national polls.
  8. Open your EYES! He is an honest, concisten, decent man who wants the best for America, not himself!
  9. Ron Paul is a libertarian who is only running for the republican nomination to get his name out and so he can participate in the debates. Once he fails to garner the republican nomination he will go back to being a libertarian so he can get their nomination. He believes in protecting many personal freedoms but also believes in legalizing illegal drugs and making the US an isolationist country.
  10. Ron Paul is the second coming of Hitler. He is a nutjob.
  11. If there's ever been a time, when we need to look at a candidate rather than a party, it's this election. At a time when a good and competant candidate is this hard to come by, it would really be a shame to vote along party lines rather than on a person's integrity. Plus, have you not noticed how the neocon republicans claim that he's not a republican? Well, that means that he's not like the people who've given the republican party a bad name. I've been doing a lot of research on the candidates and i can't imagine voting for anyone else this election. This man is a saint. he's had a consistant voting record for 30 years, so what he's saying isn't just for the sake of getting votes... he really believes and practices what he stands for and has for decades. I really think it's time for an honest man who's not in anyone's pockets to come and stand for the American public, not for the "pockets" who got them elected. ps. There is a couple I know who keep saying that Ron Paul is a nutjob. Finally one of our neighbors asked them a few questions, and it turned out that they didn't even know what the federal reserve is, and they were against Ron Paul's fiscal policies!!!! I think the people who don't get him call him a nutjob, but the intellectuals are flocking to him in large numbers. pps. He doesn't believe in legalizing drugs, he believes in making it enforcable by state, not the federal government. he thinks a lot of money is wasted when the state dodges dealing with prosecuting the drug dealers and users and sends them off for the federal government (who should be doing a LOT of other things we need). So he's for not passing the buck.. he's NOT for drug legalization. And the other mistake people make is that he's an isolationist. That's FAR from the truth. The way we've been acting the past 8 years is the path to isolationism. Leaving other countries alone in how they live and not instigating war with them is not isolationism. He's for trade and civil dealings with other countries and that will actually get us out of the hatred we've created in the world. Being peaceful is not being an isolationist... Alienating the whole world by being a bully is isolasionism.
  12. I felt about the same way you do. I'll give you my honest assessment. Ron Paul is not typical of modern republicans. He has often deviated from the party line and has a very good record of voting only for legislation strictly conforms to the Constitution. He has no scandals, no allegations of infidelity or improper conduct. and he doesn't even partake of most of the congressional benefits. He has never voted for a pay raise. He is a record of seeking monetary support only from individuals and not from corporations or lobbies. Although he runs as a republican, many accuse him of a more libertarian view. He is outspokenly against abortion and pro-life. He considers the war in Iraq a mistake and has said he would recall our troops and end our involvement. He is against taxation. He is against deficit spending. He is somewhat isolationist. Now my impression. I have read many of his essays. I have found 2 and only 2 reactions to any of them. Most of the time when I read one I am amazed by the blunt and forthright truth and common sense he writes, I find his concerns completely valid and his solutions logical. The other reaction is "Huhh??!!" How can someone possibly be this innocent of reality? I assure you, that second reaction is much less common but it shocks me when I run into it. I think the man is probably the most honest man on capitol hill and truly dedicated to helping his country. I think he might be the only guy to come along in decades who will never intentionally betray our trust for any reason. But some of his ideas are highly unconventional. I would love to see 50 more just like Dr. Paul in congress. Our nation would be a different and probably much better place. I have a doubt about him as President even though I truly wish I didn't. Ron Paul should not be judged by his party, not by a long shot. Read his essays. You will hear people call him a nut. Read what he has to say for yourself. One thing no one can accuse him of is a failure to take a stand or speak his mind.
  13. well his voting record shows he does what he says he is going to do - he doent flip flop to please his constituents -he is nt owned by corprorate contributions like hillary or guiliani- or trying to buy the presidency himself like romney - If you want a person who is going to uphold and follow the constitution-end the iraq war - stop policing the world and engage it with friendship eradicate the deficit and end overspending if he is office for the next 4 yrs -he is your guy - I post this a lot it is his platform which the media seems to misunderstand or misrepresent end of big govt -end to iraq war -end of deficit -end of unbalanced budgets -end of devaluation of dollar -end of policing the world - end of exporting US jobs overseas -end of income taxes -end of no enforcement of illegal immigration -end of corporate socialism -end of neocon agenda -end of socialist agenda -end of no longer following the constitution -end of unsecure borders and ports
  14. Thank you for your interest in Ron Paul.. To answer your question, I believe that you should judge the individual, not the actions of his party.. Democrat, Republican, and Independent are nothing more then labels.. For instance Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are both democrats, but Clinton voted in favor of entering the war in Iraq, while Paul didn't.. both Obama/Clinton, cannot promise to have the troops out by 2013, possibly later.. Paul wants to withdraw them within a three month time frame and then stabilize Iraq.. and Clinton/Obama both support the Patriot Act, while Paul voted against it.. I have been IMPRESSED with Paul... Republican or Democrat, I have almost never seen a candidate who is so honest and relativistic in his/her thinking, and who doesn't try to please the public but says the things exactly as s/he believes them. If you believe in lower taxes, are anti-war, against the patriot act, and believe in honest government who looks out for our well being not their own self interests this is the man for you! Edit: To address a claim being made.. he believes in a non-interventionist foreign policy (not isolating ourselves) Which is what our founding fathers advocated. Paul supports free trade and handling situations with diplomacy.. War is only necessary in extreme cases i.e. Hitler.. It is costly in both lives and money..
  15. Hey, I'm glad you asked the question. I was a Democrat supporter before I learned about Ron Paul - I supported the Kerry-Edwards campaign in 2004 (I was dissapointed at the results). And I learned about Ron Paul last year (2006) while I was trying to figure out what is happening with the economy. That lead me to learn more about a sound money policy and gold and silver backed currency, and how the Federal Reserve is manipulating the money supply and how our dollars are going down in value. I watched a documentary movie about the Federal Reserve - it's called "America: from Freedom to Fascism" by Aaron Russo - the director of "Trading Places". That documentary opened my eyes to the history of the Fed, and a glimpse of Congressman Ron Paul, and his honest and open discussion of what is happening to the economy. I looked him up on the internet and found that he walks his talk, and his voting record is consistent, and he lives by the principles that he preaches. So, I 'fell in love' with the guy. Although he is a Republican, his philosophy is libertarian and a true conservative, unlike the 'neocons' whom we now call 'conservatives'. Ron Paul is more of an old-school conservative, which is closer to what the Founders were. The Founders of America had a philosophy which is similar to today's libertarianism and conservatism (not neo-conservatism). Ron Paul's ideology is closer to the old school Republican party (the one that Thomas Jefferson founded) than the current neocon dominated Republican party. So, he is not 'one of them' so to speak. If you look at his debates, he stands out from the 'pack', because his ideologies are so different from the rest. I would like to give you an analogy: the Republican party is dominated by wolves in sheep's skin, and Ron Paul is the sheep-dog (watch-dog). He knows what's going on, and he has been a whistle blower many times. But unfortunately, there aren't that many politicians like him to make a difference in the congress. He is unique and the most trust-worthy statesman I know. Go to YouTube and type in 'ron paul' to watch his debates and his speeches in congress.
  16. Ron Paul is an anarchist.
  17. I'm sorry I can't tell you everything I know about Ron Paul, because it would take several pages, I have a 334 page book written by him called The Ron Paul Money Book, and have been following his "Spotless" career for over 25 years. I concur with TJTB, Nicholes, Rooster, & Jessica is Beautiful. I'll simply add this: Ron Paul is the "Ranking" member of the house banking committee, and would know more about where the government spends it's money than any other candidate. Ron Paul is also a member of the house foreign affairs committee, and would know more about foreign affairs than most Americans. Opinion: He has a VERY sharp mind and many viewers simply cannot keep up with him simply because he accurately quotes historical events, monetary policy, his own congressional voting record, foriegn policy, war & peace, and much more in a rapid fire type of presentation. He grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania & knows hard work. He is the common Americans Only hope for putting America on a Constitutional path once again. Thank you for the question. *******************************************************
  18. You can't judge any politician by their political affiliation - Bush and Ted Kennedy agree on most things. The best way to see what they are about is to check their voting records on issues you find important.
  19. Ron Paul would make for a great president. You are a democrat, and so naturally you would not trust the republican party. I do not like the republican party either, though I am a strong conservative. But Ron Paul is different. There is no other candidate running for the republican party that would make for a good president except Ron Paul. He does not vote along party lines, he votes what he believes in, what the people who voted him into office believe in. He doesnt have any whacked out opinions either. He may be called a radical, but really the only opinions he holds come straight from the Constitution. This is how it is supposed to be. True, he is somewhat of an isolationist, but why not? The world hates America right now, so why do we even bother to meddle in everyone's affairs (even if we are smarter than most of the other countries). And also, he is the only republican who is against the Iraq War. He wants to leave as soon as possible, which is the smartest thing America can do right now. I hate the thought of just leaving, but we are not getting any closer to our goal, which has not even been fully explained to the American people. Ron Paul is not a republican, he is a Constitutionalist. He is known for his extremely stubborn beliefs, and this is something that is lacking in both parties. He says things how they are, unlike Guiliani or Hillary, and is not afraid to say it. I recommend you try to learn more about this guy, and maybe even join the rEVOLution! He certainly is gaining a huge following where I am, and whether he wins or not, he has started a movement that will not die until its goal is achieved. All you have to do is watch one of the GOP debates to see how honest and true this man is. He sticks out like a sore thumb in these debates because his beliefs are so different than that of the general GOP. There is nothing to be mistrusted in this guy. He does not even really fit into the GOP very well, so ignoring him because he is a republican does not really do well here (though it does with the rest of the GOP candidates).
