1. Political parties help fund a lot of electoral campaigns from key regional races to national races, but also spend a lot of money directly campaigning. One typical example are attack ads in Presidential campaigns. An individual candidate does not want to appear mean, so usually the attack ads run on their behalf come from the party or a PAC.
