Do you think Rudy Giuliani would really get past the religious right and obtain the Republican nomination?

There is no way that the religious right would stand for Giuliani to be their candidate. He is very liberal when it comes to issues like abortion, gun control, and the like. I think he is just way too "New York City" to fly with the backbone of the Republican party, which are conservative people in the South and Midwest. I don't think this group of people would even consider voting for a pro-choice candidate, Republican or not. Therefore, I think it is complete bunk that he will actually get the nomination. If he does, the stuff will hit the fan for sure. LOL tiredofit, at least liberals have clean hair, apparently! :-P

  1. As a more moderate republican, I am really hoping that Giuliani is able to get the nomination. I think the problem with American politics today is that both parties have become so extreme. What we need is a statesman or stateswoman; not a super-republican or a super-democrat. However, with the primary system, candidates are forced to extremes in order to win the party's nomination. I think Giuliani would be a good president for our country; unfortunately, he's going to have a really hard time getting the nomination. Even so, he's be a wonderful statesman and someone I would be proud to have represent our country in foreign affairs.
  2. I doubt he will fly with the religious right as well. He is one of the few liberal Republicans out there. I want Fred Thompson, that D.A. from Law & Order to run for President. I would vote for him.
  3. His family values are definitely lacking... Not a good thing for the religious right.
  4. You are correct, this plus his divorces are not painting good picture of your typical republican. It only shows how it is still important - perfect image and religiousness. I want to vote for a real person, not an icon.
  5. Giuliani probably has the best chance if he could get by the right. Obama and Edwards are going to team up and win, by a good margin! Thank goodness. Bush has been a complete and utter disaster. Incompetent! Clinton is going to fade eventually, too polarizing!
  6. Rudy G. is Conservative on ONE item; he's pro-war. Other than that, he's as Liberal as a handful of shampoo. Pro-abortion, gun-grabber, welfare state. Giuliani is running "stealth mode" under the (R) because he thinks it will get him some votes.
  7. Prior to 911, it's my understanding that his head was on the chopping block and he was about to get ousted anyway...With that in mind, I'm a bit leary of him leading the entire country....
  8. if Giuliani is the candidate then republicans will vote for him. given the choice of Giuliani or any democrat candidate a republican will go with the lesser of two evils. contrary to what most Libs believe, the republican party and conservative base is not controlled bt the extreme religious right no more than democrats and liberals are controlled by the extreme atheist left (okay well maybe the atheist left has slightly more control)
  9. The "religious right" are a minority in the GOP (despite what some "intellectuals" will tell you. The GOP will nominate someone who can be elected, whereas the Democrats will nominate somebody that makes the wealthy and hip base happy, but makes the rest of the country spew. Giuliani will get the nomination.
  10. It might be difficult for him. However you are giving the CNN slant on his positions. He is against partial birth abortion. He is not against all gun ownership. And as far as conservatives being all in the south and the midwest, you need to look at the red and blue stae map as it was when Bush won the last election. The conservatives do want a conservative candidate, but no candidate in years has been 100% and they never will be.
