Can Giuliani win the GOP nomination after saying this?
On a 1989 broadcast of a Phil Donahue show, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani said "I've said that I'll uphold a woman's right of choice, that I will fund abortion so that a poor woman is not deprived of a right that others can exercise, and that I would oppose going back to a day in which abortions were illegal." Permit me to repeat these four words "I will fund abortion."

- Are you able to conceive? No, I didn't think so. How about you mind your business and let individual women make their own choices.
- Yes. Republicans want to win in 08. I think by pointing out that if abortion were outlawed the under class would overwhelm us he has a winning argument
- Well, as far as it is from me to understand why someone as intelligent and morally astute as Giuliani can't see abortion for what it is, I still concede that there is room for disagreement within our party.
- This and other ghost in his closent will not allow him to be a viable candidate. He is far to liberal for the Christian right and they will never accept him.
- A Republican will tell you anything to get into office but after pulling the wool over people's eyes, they turn into the wolves they really are. Remember, that Ronald Reagan is the one who signed the bill to legalize abortion here in the state of Cailfornia when he was governor. .
- Probably not.
- He has the lead in the polls right now amongst the Republic candidates and in head to head against the Democratic candidates he polls better than any of the Republic candidates.
- Hillary just said she planned on confiscating profits of private corporations to fund other corporations (coprporate redistribution of wealth... a/k/a corporate welfare) and it doesnlt seem to be hurting her. This will be put in context by Rudy's handlers just like Hillary is being "softened" be hers.
- We need more folks like you in Iraq to fight for our freedom. As far as Giuliani, he sees the economical disadvantage of the poor who need abortion clincs if they want to do the ungodly deed. Unlike the rich who could afford private clinic abortions, the poor can't. And in the end it's a woman's decision.
- If you don't have abortion, you can't bring in all those poor Mexicans to do the work Americans aren't around to do.
- Rudy is one of the better candidates out there right now. He has many positives and some negatives. Of all the candidates out there, Rudy is only a handful that has any executive experience. Basically he ran one of the largest cities in the United States quite effectively and was a true leader in the 9/11 disaster. The negative that you point out here is an old argument and lets be frank about it - Republicans realize that abortion is not going away and we believe that tax money should not be used to fund it. Rudy is not a fool and he realizes that to get Republican support, he will not support tax payer supported abortions except in the most extreme cases. If you want an abortion, pay for it. A condom is much cheaper than an abortion and its not that hard not to get pregnant.
- I am a conservative but I am pro choice for the simple reason that I want smaller Government. The state has no business telling us what we can or can not do with our bodies.
- I personally admire the courage of his stance. He is by far the best candidate for president. He has shown what he can do.
- Thank you for repeating those four words. If you hadn't, I'd have missed them. Its an opinion stupid. Why do you find it so interesting? What's your opinion? (like I didn't know). I'll bet you spent days researching that little tidbit. Or was that a talking point that some liberal Democrat gave you and you latched onto it like a rabid dog.
- We have a lot more important matters on our plate other than abortion! he has shown that he can lead and won't take nonsense from anyone. I give him a big thumbs up!... he is a strong, principled man.
