Why did Rudy Giuliani make this Fascist statement in one of his speeches during his time as mayor of NYC?

"We look upon authority too often and focus over and over again, for 30 or 40 or 50 years, as if there is something wrong with authority. We see only the oppressive side of authority. Maybe it comes out of our history and our background. What we don't see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do. You have free speech so I can be heard." source: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A01E2D9173CF933A15750C0A962958260

  1. Usually the simplest answer, is the correct one! :) He's a fascist, or at least too far authoritarian.
  2. Great quote. Only children believe freedom comes without responsibility...
  3. Haven't you gotten the memo? Freedom is Slavery
  4. Have you even bothered to read it? Or did you just see a headline somewhere and did a copy & paste without thought? Because he's right. Notice he says "a great deal of discretion" not blindly do whatever the government wants. This "discretion" involves things like traffic laws, health codes, criminal and civil law. Without this "discretion" we live in anarchy.
  5. He made this speech because he saw that the anti-authority movement from the 1960s had overstated their case. They brought down people who abused their power and they also brought down institutions that we need, like the nuclear family in the process. 1960s radicals and fascists have more in common with each other than either group has with Giuliani. The former are in favor of a movement that continues in one direction. Radicals on the left and the right pick a direction and step on the gas. Rudi's speech was about hitting the breaks before you race right past the balance we need to thrive. Thanks for posting the speech. I was debating whether to vote for Richardson, Biden, McCain or Giuliani and you just helped put me in Rudi's camp! I didn't realize he was that on the ball 13 years ago. He's the man.
  6. Because he is a fascist! *sm*
  7. OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IS MILITARY INCENTIVE RATHER THAN CIVIL. WE PRIORITIZE SPENDING MONEY ON WAR AND CLOSING SCHOOLS. AUTHORITY HAS MANY WAYS OF STEALING OUR MONEY AND WHEN THEY STEAL WE ARE TALKING BILLIONS IE; BILLIONS OF DOLLARS MISSING EVERY YEAR BASED ON THE PENTAGONS AUDITOR WHO LAID HIMSELF OFF, HE WAS ON THE "NOW" SHOW ON PBS! OUR PUBLIC MEDIA HAS BRAIN WASHED US TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS ALWAYS THE INDIVIDUALS FAULT FOR CRIME AND OTHER SOCIAL ILLS. THE PUBLIC MEDIA NEVER TALKS ABOUT THE CLASS ISSUES AND CLASS CONFLICT WHILE IT IS A REALITY. SOCIETY NEVER TAKES ANY RESPONSIBILITY. IF THESE AUTHORITY FIGURES DON'T STEAL SO MUCH MONEY AND WE SPEND IT ON OUR YOUTH AND CREATE OPPORTUNITIES IT WILL PREVENT MANY OF THEM TO COMMIT CRIMES, AND IF THE LAW MAKERS GET OUT OF DENIAL AND TAKE THE PROFIT OUT OF DRUGS, THAT WILL LOWER CRIME SIGNIFICANTLY . IF THEY ARE NOT DOING THAT THEN THERE MUST BE A CONSPIRACY! THE GOOD OLD BOYS WHO USE TO SHIP SLAVES NOW THEY ARE SHIPPING DRUGS, INCLUDING THE CIA, AND THEY HAVE THE POOR PEOPLE TO DISTRIBUTE THEM AND TAKE ALL THE RISK AND PUT IN PRISONS AND WE BLAME THEM. THAT IS A SHORT SIGHTED VIEW, DON'T YOU THINK SO? PEACE
  8. Giuliani banks off of what happened during 9-11, that's a shame and so unethical I can't see why people can't see through him?
  9. Rudy is dangerous to the world.
  10. thats why he is not gonna get even nominated.i think reps.gonna have fred thompson and romney nominated and on the dem.side its gonna be clinton/richards
  11. ya
  12. Poor Rudy, Here lately he seems to keep putting his foot in his mouth. May be he really did swallow too much dust 9/11. He said he did, then had to retract that too.
  13. I have no idea why Rudy made this statement, but I'll guess it's because he thinks we're a bit stupid. We have a responsibility to closely examine authority. Freedom is not anarchy. Freedom is not about ceding to authority. Freedom is a fine line where people can do and say what they want, but respect the rights of others. America has yet to achieve it. We do have the highest percentage of our citizens locked up in prisons of any country in the world. Lastly, I doubt the Bill of Rights was introduced and ratified so that Rudy could be heard. If he was around back then he's looking damn good for his age.
  14. Giuliani is not equal to the job. He has not the right kind of experience. He is not president material. He is no match for Hillary.
