Is Rudy Giuliani, the pro-choice, pro-gay, 3 times divorced former mayor of New York, a good choice?
Would conservative voters in the bible belt vote for such a man?

- I think he's the perfect two-faced hypocrite to represent the Rethuglican party. Totally PERFECT!!!
- Yes and yes. Because he can beat Hillary.
- I hope not. Strictly because he thinks ALL guns need to be banned
- He has a very good chance of winning the primary, but only because the leading contenders (McCain, Romney) are even less popular. I actually believe he will become less popular once more Republicans find out more about his stances on abortion and gay rights. Thats a shame, because while I probably wouldn't vote for him, I don't think he'd be a bad President.
- He would be acceptable to the social conservatives if he took a stance on constitutional interpretation and judicial appointments which would SEEM to be contradictory to his policy views, but isn't. For example, the late John Hart Ely was "pro-choice" in terms of his legislative goals; as a voter, he believed that abortion should be legal. But Ely rejected the Roe v. Wade decision as an invalid interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. (See his article in Yale Law Review, 1973, entitled "The Wages of Crying Wolf.") Here is his excellent way of explaining why it is not contradictory to be pro-choice as a legislator but to reject Roe. This was something that he wrote about Yale Professor Alexander Bickel. "His good friend Robert Bork explained at Bickel's Memorial Service that [his] Burkean ending meant that Bickel had finally 'resolved the tension' between his political liberalism and his judicial conservatism. 'To read his New Republic piece on Edmund Burke is to see that his political philosophy had come into alignment with his legal philosophy.' I can remember choking as Bork said this, not because I disagreed that Bickel's politics had moved somewhat toward the end -- I can't account for The Morality of Consent without that assumption either -- but rather because of Bork's suggestion that there had been a contradiction to be resolved. For one perfectly well can be a genuine political liberal and at the same time believe, out of a respect for the democratic process, that the Court should keep its hands off the legislature's value judgments." Guiliani, too, can believe that legislatures should not ban abortion while also believing that the Constitution does not guarantee "reproductive freedom" and that the Court was wrong to claim that it does.
- He will never get the GOP nomination
- C'mon, give us a hint where you stand so we can give you the answer you want and we can get 10 points. Oh, wait a minute, you are anti abortion, anti gay and anti divorced people. What a great guy!
- This guy is a smuk ,a dumb ass,,like on the 70,s show,,,my foot up your dumb ass....but poles show he is the one,,,what shiit...decider
- Yes, he is but I don't think he will ever get the GOP nomination.
- He still could kick Hillary's butt!
- I like Guiliani, actually. I'm a Liberal, but I think he's the strongest candidate out there right now. Now I'd like to see a lot of Obama, and I'm hoping that he turns out to be a strong candidate, but at this stage it's hard to say. We'll see how he reacts to being in the Presidential campaign cauldron. I'm confident that Guiliani will hold up just fine. We all saw how cool he was on 9/11. If that didn't throw him, I expect that almost nothing could.
- Dunno, but he couldn't be worse than what we've got. Re: Bible Belt. Maybe they'll vote for him if he pulls a Swaggart and cries on command over his sins, while clutching a Bible. Rudy might be too urban and too ethnic for the conservative bible belt voters. (I'd like to call them ignoramuses, but unfortunately they've grown pretty savvy politically over the years. )
- One word, Hillary! That scares, everyone! Next!
- If it came down between him and Hillary, yes they would..Also hate to break the news to ya that there are more pro-choice pro gay folk in the south than what you think there are..
- I admire Rudy Giuliani a lot. He showed strong, solid leadership after the 9/11 attacks and he cleaned up NYC. But the truth is, the religious right will probably not vote for him because he's liberal on social issues. The abortion issue is key.
- there are many decent, law-abiding, intelligent and capable people who are pro-choice, pro-gay and are divorced. So, now what's your argument?????
- Hey, I'm a New Yorker, and I can tell you one thing about that OTHER gestapo (Giuliani): he will be far worse than Dubya because he's NOT stupid like Dubya. You THINK we have it bad with our Constitutional rights, freedoms and liberties being breached...? Wait and see what happens IF Rudy get elected...! That rat-fink Giuliani abandoned his wife and children... I'd like to know what the Cons that are always (b)itching about Slick Willy's B/J would say about this other idiot... but, of course, he's only a Republic Party candidate, so the Cons would probably excuse him...! He's responsible for some of the deaths of 9/11... for years the fire fighters were complaining about the poor communication devices and they requisitioned better ones and Rudy consistently, routinely and repeatedly REFUSED the fire fighters the equipment they needed and also caused deaths when the fire fighters could not communicate due to defective communication devices! Rudy was show-boating, primping and prancing around for the cameras, trying to tell experienced and very well trained rescue personnel what to do when they ALREADY knew what to do... they couldn't even blow a fart without him supervising it! He'd asked them what they were doing and say, "Yes, carry on..." while the cameras were trained on him... he did nothing but interfere with the men at work and make it look as though he knew what he was doing...! HE caused delays while asking questions and not letting the trained personnel do their jobs as they were trained to do! The only position I'd gladly vote for him is if he was running for javelin catcher!
- Isnt he a better choice than pro war anti everybody whos not white george bush?
- conservatives may not like his social stances. but hes a good leader and may be a good president but if he really has switched on being pro-choice, I would never vote for him. he has been pro-choice for over a decade, I can't support someone who makes that kind of dramatic change coincidently around election time
