Is Rudy Giuliani qualified to be President of the United States?

Rudy Giuliani may have been a good Mayor, but that hardly qualifies him to be the leader of the United States. Making sure peoples garbage is picked up and cleaning graffiti off of buildings are not great feats compared to the responsibilities of the President. Rudy has exactly zero experience in federal politics. He will be a pawn for the neo-cons just as Bush was a pawn. The real power of the Republican party does not necessarily lie with the man elected as President, as Cheney, Rove and Rumsfield proved. Be careful how you cast your vote. Don't be fooled again.

By that I mean I think main-stream Americans find New York life, and experiences, hard to relate to. And, considering that Red States are primary rural, often mid-western, I think this association will hurt him as well. And regardless of the exact opposite public perception, I watched Giuliani on 911, and I thought he looked very rattled. He did NOT inspire confidence, in my opinion. On the plus side, he is a true capitalist, a believer in the trickle-down effect, a Reagan Republican. But I'm not so sure he comes across sincerely on a lot of issues, aside from his economic theories. And his personal life problems (Mistress and divorce) are also going to hurt him with the Right. I think McCain looks better on paper. But, frankly, he may be just too dang old.

11. Rudy Guliani was not 100% good mayor. Race relations in NYC were at an all time low during his admnistration. I think Guliani would be a good president. He is certainly competent and he is tough on crime. He is not very pragmatic, though.

18. In general, yes he's qualified. Being NYC mayor is one of the toughest jobs in all of government, despite the fact that it's not a federal position. If he had been mayor of say...Spokane, then the obvious answer would be no. Rudy also demonstrated that he's his own man by crossing the isle to endorse Cuomo in '94. There's no basis to suggest he'd be a pawn. Problem solving is the foundation of good governing, and he has a great number of skills in that area, as shown by the sharp reduction in crime and overall improvement in the quality of life. He clearly has an high opinion of himself, and that has caused problems, but nothing along the lines of a real scandal, just too much personal noise. Is he worth voting for, yes...if that's where your support lies, but he's bigger than 9-11...one day does not make a man.
