Does the news media observe double standards in their treatment of Democrat versus Republican misbehavior?
And by extension, the attitudes of the public? Here are some apples to apples comparisons: Bill Clinton compared to Newt Gingrich & Bob Livingston Senator Joe Biden compared to Senator Trent Lott Congressman Gary Studds compared to Congressman Mark Foley.
Public Comments
- Absolutely!!
- No the media thrives on controversy. They don't care which side of the aisle it comes from.
- either parties, mis-behavior is always present when one is supporting the other.
- Not really. People just mention the load of bull that Republicans are more (cough) "moral" than democrats when Republicans get caught misbehaving, hence the "liberal spin".
- if these guys did not do anything wrong thy would not print it
- Just watch FOX news. They held a witch hunt on Clinton for all 8 yrs in his office. FOX these days sees no wrong doings by any republicans. Ever. If there is a major story about corruption of a Republican it's so down plaid like it's not a real big issue and the "liberal" media is "out to get them".
- Absolutely, but it is somewhat sutile. I watched the news for years and until someone pointed it out I had not noticed. One way is if a Democrat is caught in wrong doing the fact he is a Democrat is not mentioned or mentioned in passing. If a Republican is caught he is identified as " Republican (title) (name)". The Democrat is referred to as (name) then his position or the fact that he is a Democrat may or may not be mentioned later in the story. Even if they are caught in the same wrong doing what the Democrat did is discussed as an excusable mistake, while the Republican wrong doing is discribed as almost criminal.
- When you consider that the mainstream media is owned and operated by right-wing controlled pentopoly of mega corporations, 2 of which are foriegn, you have to come to the logical conclusion that the news we get is extremely one sided and intended to keep us misinformed and stupid. johns.net for truth
