Why is Joe Biden so stupid as to say this?
Democrat Joe Biden charged Tuesday that President Bush's policies in Iraq are designed to confuse voters and ensure that a chaotic end to the war is delayed until after he leaves office. Biden pointed to the turmoil that accompanied the end of the Vietnam War, with Americans plucked from the roof of the U.S. Embassy as enemy troops poured into Saigon. <We all know that when we evac'd Saigon, the USA had not been at war there for over 2 years.>

- This is what happens when you have hair transplants that look like rows of Corn on your head. They fertilize the hair follicles with manure, and the manure gets into your brain, that's why Biden says stuff like that when he isn't plagiarizing someone else's speech.
- What's stupid about it? Everyone knows it's been bushes plan for awhile now to leave his mess for the next President. "WE'RE not leaving, so long as I'm the President."
- i suppose leaving by helicopter from the US embassy doesn't qualify as a confusing and tumultuous end to our presence in Vietnam? generally the end of the Vietnam debacle (perhaps not the war) is marked by the last of America's "advisers" leaving the embassy as S.Vietnam fell to the North's invasions.
- Yes,he is that stupid and selfserving.
- Well sounds like Biden was correct on this one.
- I wouldn't say that his comments were stupid, on contrary I believe his words should make people think about our goals in Iraq. It is interesting to me in that his party wants out of Iraq now. Should we leave Iraq now, the mayhem that will follow can be blamed on the pull out thus have ramifications for the Democrats. I think this is proof that neither party has a clear understanding of the situation there, nor any way to resolve it.
- What are you objecting to? I don't get what is wrong with what he said, other than arguing over what Bush's intent is. If you are parsing over the "end of the Vietnam War" -- I think that most Americans consider the fall of Saigon and the images of helicopters carrying people off the roof of the US Embassy as the end of the Vietnam war and it is not a good picture. Yes, a couple of years before that, Henry Kissenger was proclaiming we had "peace with honor" but was that really the end? In Iraq, it is the republicans who keep talking about the aftermath of a US pull out. All the chaos that could ensue. That will come after we declare "mission really accomplished" and leave. Do you think Bush wants to be in office when the chaos ensues? I think the direct comparison with the fall of Saigon is totally on spot and really, it is the Republicans who are the ones point out this posible scenario. But is it still Bush who made this outcome the likely one.
- Sorry Hitler, Biden is correct on this. The only thing Bush is correct on this war is the comparison to Vietnam.
- Well, this is the same Joe Biden who lost his bid for the Democratic Nomination in 1988 because he got caught plagiarizing a speech by British Labour Party Leader Neil Kinnock. There was another plagiarism incident in his college days. My guess is that he stole the line from somebody else--possibly Rush Limbaugh. Although a lot of Chickenhawks use people's memories of the famous photo of the Marine hanging from the helicopter skid during the 1975 evacuation of the US Embassy to portray the orderly withdrawal of US troops in 1973 appear to have been a chaotic rout. It's a cross Party steal, but then Jesse Jackson, and Bush the Elder, (Although I'm not sure how it got to him,) have both stolen lines from me. Biden is actually a pretty smart guy with a solid record of Public Service. The Biden--Gelb plan for Iraq's future, regional autonomy under a central goverment would probably work. But, like so many smart and otherwise loyal Americans, Biden has a tendency to shoot himself in the foot when he gets ambitious.
- I think Biden is correct on this one.
