How many times has John McCain announced his candidacy for President?

He announced it again on Letterman and he is supposedly going to announce it again for everybody who has already forgotten or could care less. Is he mental? http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/20070301-0501-mccain-2008.html

  1. No, on Letterman he was announcing his announcement of possibly being voted as the guy who may get to run for President. I hope this clears things up! ???
  2. He's trying to remind people that he wasn't just the guy who Bush stabbed in the back in 2000. Right now, people are focused on Hillary and Obama, and the Republican is unimportant, because it's either a vote for the Democrat or against. At least, that's how the trend is at the moment. The truth of the matter is, any candidate needs as much face time as possible. McCain is trying to get his name back out there, and hopefully become the mainstream media darling he was in 2000 before he ran out of steam. He's probably quite afraid that Giuliani will capitalise on his charisma and 9-11 experience in order to win the nomination, or that Condoleezza Rice will announce candidacy, who would combine minority, female, and Bush legacy, the latter of which remains at least somewhat popular in the Republican camp. It's the same reason they pump us full of ads from every direction for a full year of election campaigning. The more an undecided person hears a name, the more they lean towards that name.
