3. Senator McCain was a prisoner of war for 5 years during the Vietnam war. He was tortured, starved, beaten and maltreated every day for those 5 years. They broke almost every bone in his body, including his face. His eye sockets were broken, his jaw was broken several times, both arms and legs. The disfiguration of his face is due to the torture he somehow survived.
