Is John McCain still mentally capable of being president?
I've been noticing a lot lately that McCain has been mixing up things in his speeches (Yahoo! currently has a story in which he mixed up Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, there are other examples as well). I had originally passed this off as nervousness, but he has been doing it more and more. He has said we are at war with Iran, we've lost the war in Iraq (which I consider bad but certainly not over), etc. He is beginning to shake a lot, too. I definitely still see a very intelligent and caring individual in John McCain, and he does seem honest and truthful as well (I think the only politician I've ever seen pull off that look). But I'm beginning to wonder whether the age has caught up with him and that he may no longer be mentally capable of handling the stress and complicated matters that come with being president. I'm wondering who thinks my suspicions may be correct, and who does not. And why?

- I'm voting for Hillary in 2008.
- I think he has trouble putting into words an answer that is Republican Appropriate and still represents who he is and what he believes. I am a Democrat but I respect JM, and wish he would be able to speak his own platform.
- I think he's just a bad salesman personally. Most of his problems have nothing to do with his policies or stances, but his social gaffes. I do think it is nervousness personally - he made similar mistakes the last time he ran for president, and they were a lot worse too. I honestly think he has a good chance of losing the primary again and it's sad, because I think he is the strongest republican candidate. I would agree with you that he sucks at winning elections but I don't think that this necessarily means he would suck at being president.
- was he ever mentally capable? lets go with hilary....she's smart,,she tries to be compassionate...and she is prettier than any of the presidential candidates.
- Well, to start, I know a -LOT- of people who don't know the difference between Saddam and Osama, which is very sad in itself. But when it's a politician, it definetelly sets off a red flag. I haven't heard him mix up Iran or Iraq, but I wouldn't put it past him. Putting my bias against him aside, I think it definetelly calls for concern when he mixes up which countries we're at war with, and when he mixes up a terrorist mastermind with a tyrant. As for why or why not, I don't know. It could be his age, he could have a disorder, or maybe the torture and captivity that he had the misfortune of going through had some sort of mental effect on him. I think something's wrong, but I couldn't tell you what. I especially noticed it in the YouTube debate.
- Tragically, senator McCain is not the man he once was. Neat guy & a true(gutsy) American hero! I do believe senator McCain needs to retire, I mean he's had a VERY active life & should take the time to enjoy his life out of the political arena.
- I'm sure he's fine, may just be anxiety, getting close to Primaries. Who knows?
