Why did the neo-cons pick GW Bush over John McCain for president?

McCain served the country and had a broader understanding of foreign policy. I seriously believe it was because McCain showed signs of independent thought. What do you think?

  1. with Bush's past record of drinking and driving, sniffing nose candy and being AWOL...I would have to say that Georgie boy had more political influence and friends in "High" places than Mccain did!
  2. It could have went either way. Neither of them is very Conservative so it was a hard choice.
  3. Men higher up than the NeoCons picked this President. If you check it out, the same names behind the Third Reich in Germany were also behind Dubbya, and oddly, one of those names is Bush! http://www.tarpley.net/bush2.htm McCain had no chance against these men.
  4. I thought libs knew that john McCain is neo-con. The libs were fooled, John McCain is the real neo-con. Chuck Hagel is also a neo con
  5. because Bush is better and he can beat the NEOLIBS
  6. McCain, while Republican and JUST missing the Neo Con label, was not a bought and paid for member of Big Oil. John McCain had the interests of his constituents at heart, not what Big Business had to say about it. Being one of the few truly honorable men in Washington, he of course cannot be pigeonholed. Do you know George W. Bush actually accused McCain, a POW during the Vietnam War, of being a "possible Manchurian Candidate"? McCain, after refusing to run a dirty campaign against Bush, was rewarded for his honor in SC (and after winning a huge victory in the NH primary) by being attacked by Bush's "push- pollers" (a despicable practice of SOUNDING like someone calling with an opinion poll about a particular candidate, but actually slant the questions so they leave the listeners with new doubts about their choices). In SC, they called religious fundamentalists and asked then if they were aware McCain had fathered a black child illegitimately, which of course, he hadn't their child is adopted legally, and of course the Bush campaign used voter ignorance to their favor, and McCain was soundly defeated.
