If the Republican party chose John McCain as president in 2000 what would the world be like today?

John McCain stunned the Bush campaign early on in the 1999 primaries. He was against lobbyist in Washington and wanted to limit the amount of contributions they could make to politicians. Ofcourse the far right brought out the big money guns (lobbyist) and inundated the airwaves with Bush ads in the following states. McCain didn't have the money to keep up and fell close behind GWB then swept the rest of the primaries. I believe McCain could have really kept us united as a nation and the dueling parties could have been united far longer in the way they were shortly after 9/11. Gore would have lost in a landslide. Bush was too far right and that is why the election was so close....McCain would have stolen Democratic votes at an alarming rate. People were quite tired of the Clinton regime at that time if you don't recall.

  1. LOL, we'd be talking about President Gore. There would have never been a President McCain if the GOP nominated him.
  2. WHOA!!!!!!!!! The McCain/Feingold Campaign Finance Bill that was passed is the BIGGEST HOAX that has ever been pulled on the American People. All it did was take away freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Probably no different than if Al Gore would have been elected. McCain may carry the Republican title, but he's a liberal Democrat as far as I'm concerned. If the 2008 race is between him and Hillary, we're in really deep "stuff".
  4. If he would've won and that's a big "if"--I think that we would have been better off than we are now. McCain would not have divided the country so completely and he would have listened to criticism and adjusted tactics far better than our current regime.
  5. Good question. I don't think we would have gone into Iraq with such pathetic troop levels. At least McCain had served and knows the horrors of torture. Unfortunately it was Rove who ruined McCain in the South Carolina primary in 2000 with that nasty rumor about him being an illegitimate father to a black baby.
  6. McCain as President... YIKES, it's not as scary as Hillary as President but it's not far off.
  7. the world would then be a better place.
