Is John McCain a one dimensional candidate?
Is John McCain's only issue, national security. Have you notice that is all he talks about . Don't we need a well rounded president? Also, McCain's arguments concerning illegal is immigration weak. At tonight debate he tried to evade the issue concerning illegal immigration. What are your thoughts concerning John McCain? puzzled (from my last post) you missed my point! We are trying to elect a president not a military leader! A president needs to have more than one hat to do the job. You sound and talk like John McCain is our last great hope . We are the most powerful country on earth not some two bit nation looking for some savior.

- At least McCain has done something, while Hillary is a "negative dimensional" candidate. All the things about her are negative, and she does not have a single positive example of a single piece of legislation she authored.
- Hmm, he's a flip-flopper. He was a co-sponsor of the amnesty bill.
- He might still be a little traumatized from being a POW in Vietnam. So it seems like he's trying to make up for it. Seems like he'd be Bush X 10 (in terms of war/Iraq)
- Amnesty - that's his one dimension - he cares about the citizens of Mexico more than the US!
- Yes. Who would vote for old "I surrender; take me to your leader" as a national defense/security candidate.
- He has multiple dimensions. There are an infinite number of John McCains in parallel universes.
- IMO, national security is what John McCain would be best at, compared to all the other candidates. Few people in this country want to see the US victorious in Iraq, so his message is not popular. Most want to bury their heads in the sand, run away, and pretend it never happened. While their are pressing domestic issues, I believe a successful resolution in Iraq is key to America's future. John McCain is weak on immigration because he wants a guest worker program, which many people view as selling out Americans. Even though I believe it's a better policy, their are many lower class Americans that don't want to be replaced by even lower class workers. Sometimes the smartest answers don't have the best solutions, and not having a program to bring in illegals is going to maintain the status quo of them sneaking over here, or keep driving away business in America and send it overseas. Neither of those are good either. Speaking of domestic issues, McCain has demonstrated ample ability to compromise with Democrats with his time spent in government, an ability that receives far less attention than it should.
- McCain was instrumental in many key Republican defeats in the senate. He is a Republican on only two things- name and defense. Most of his senate career has been spent catering to the likes of Kennedy. As a conservative, I'd do better with Obama than McCain. At least he admits what he really is.
- Hardly. McCain has a long resume in many different areas (cutting waste, campaign reform, tobacco legislation, balancing the budget, tax reform, job legislation, farm legislation). However, his national security credentials will probably be emphasized in the 2008 Presidential campaign because he has more experience in that area than any other candidate and national security is still pretty important to a lot of voters.
- You don't get it that without national security there's no USA? What does it matter to have good healthcare if you live in a neighbourhood full of armed dangerous people out to get you? The future is that we have to defeat the Islamic fascist forces that are trying to install a world government where there would be no place for the US. When there is a long term crisis of this nature it's perfect to have a focused pres.
