Why did John McCain have to support amnesty for illegals?

I liked John McCain up until he supported amnesty for illegals. He is right about how we need to stay in Iraq and not cut and run, and I did not support the war when it began, but we must stay there. John McCain was a war hero who served his country bravely and was held as a POW for an amount of time, and came back to the US as a hero to everyone besides the hippies who hated our troops. I supported John McCain up until this year, because his being held as a prisoner of war means he can deal with a lot of pressure ans stress, and I believe he is a pretty honest and decent man. I can't believe he supported the amnesty bill. He still has my respect, but he no longer has my vote.

Public Comments

  1. Because he thought it would make him more moderate. Unfortunately he sided with Kennedy, a psycho in his own right, which torpedoed any chance McCain ever had for the WH in 08'.
  2. McCain is playing "middle of the road" so if he does win the nomination he can pull some swing voters. Its all politics, but he's playing politics with America's sovereignty.
  3. I AM A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT AND I HAVE ALWAYS HAD GREAT RESPECT FOR JOHN MCCAIN UNTIL THE ILLEGALS ISSUE and troop surge
  4. He chose the wrong legislation at the wrong time, joining with the wrong person. Kennedy.
  5. You need to learn about how he screwed our P.O.W. & M.I.A. and treated their families like SUBHUMANS. He supported Amnesty because he is a globalist scumbag.
  6. mccain didn't HAVE to do anything. What happened to you republicans and "personal responsibility"? OR is that just more BS? john lost my vote back with "the keating savings & loan scandal", remember that one? Our politicians have sold out the American public in favor of their corporate masters and their desire for "cheap" illegal alien" workers. Just let the taxpayers foot the bill. you "respect" that? I don't. Then again I'm not one of you people that yaps about supporting a war you won't actually go fight in either!
  7. Because he is the senator for Arizona which borders Mexico and has an abundance of illegal alien labor. He needs to back up the wealthy businesmen who line his pockets and taking cheap almost slave labor from them would not make them happy. So you see the almight buck rules what could be more American than that?
  8. Complex. Cannon fodder. SS revenue. $$$.
  9. He didn't have to, he wanted to. He was a good guy several years back until he got into that whole campaign finance reform thing to shut up the American people.
  10. I don't think that it is McCain playing "middle of the ground" as much as it is him serving his constituents in Arizona. There is a reason that he and the other Arizona Senator were major supporters of the previous legislation. Because it was definatly in the interest of their state and their constituents (current not possible future). It is simple that the economy of Phoenix and Tuscon would completely grind to a halt without the flow of workers from Mexico. This should be considered a good example of two Senators who respect and follow the wishes of their constituents. There is only so much you can judge him on this. His state wanted and needed this bill to pass....and you can expect him and Kyl (and any other future senator from Az to push for this legislation.
  11. You sound like a grade school kid. What he did in Vietnam wasin Vietnam, time to get with the present day and stop living in the past. McCain, is a flunky to Bush, do you see where Bush's approval rating is? Do you think it's a good strategy to make your domestic and foreign policy the same policy of the Bush administration?? That's why McCain will lose because he simply is not what the country needs right now as a president and most of us know this and knew it months or years ago.
  12. Mccain never really had much of a chance to begin with. The media promoted and supported him. That would last until after the primary, if Mccain had won, the media would trash him to support Hillary.
