Did Barack Obama refuse to put his hand over his heart and say the Pledge of Allegiance?
I see these allegations going around. Are they true? ""This was not during the pledge of allegiance," Obama said of the picture taken at Senator Tom Harkin's, D-Iowa, annual steak fry and first published by Time. "A woman was singing the Star Spangled Banner when that picture was taken." ""I was taught by my grandfather that you put your hand over your heart during the pledge, but during the Star Spangled Banner, you sing!" Obama said." http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/11/obama-says-flag.html Video: http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3759803 Pic: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2007/11/01/PH2007110101367.jpg

- NO! Here is a video of him leading the Senate in the Pledge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iC9veEouqqQ
- HE WOULDN'T SWEAR OVER THE BIBLE EITHER.TRASH ,,JUST TRASH .61% OF THE DEMOCRATS IN IOWA DIDN'T LIKE HIM EITHER
- The picture was in Newsweek...the caption under the picture says it was the national anthem...go to yahoo and type in "Obama, pledge of allaegiance", and a bunch of pictures will pop up of him with his hand over his heart
- The people who keep spreading that rumor are the same ones who make a big deal out of Obama's middle name, or the fact that his last name rhymes with "Osama." It's childish, petty nonsense. I was never taught that you have to hold your hand over your heart during the national anthem; in fact, every baseball game I attend, I stand, I take my hat off, but I don't put my hand over my heart. Saying that he "refused" to do it during the pledge of allegiance is just what they have to do in order to make it sound like he's a terrorist, which is what they want you to believe. Because that is the ONLY thing they can say about him that would make him look like a repulsive Presidential candidate. Truthfully, the reason they don't like him is because he's black and because he's a Democrat. And that is all.
- No Lamplighter, all that stuff about him is an urban legend. It's being thrown around quite a bit, but it's not true. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmaCI5k6rldcGPLKS0tN8BHsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080104112415AAThW5C&show=7#profile-info-IrNum6BMaa Fantastic link, Lamp! http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/11/obama-says-flag.html BEGIN QUOTE: "You're standing with your arms folded and Hillary's got her hand on her heart," she said, adding that she received so many of these emails she is sick of them. Obama shook his head and smiled. "This was not during the pledge of allegiance," Obama said of the picture taken at Senator Tom Harkin's, D-Iowa, annual steak fry and first published by Time. "A woman was singing the Star Spangled Banner when that picture was taken. See the original photo by clicking here. "I was taught by my grandfather that you put your hand over your heart during the pledge, but during the Star Spangled Banner, you sing!" Obama said. END QUOTE Excellent! This is on the money as well. http://www.slate.com/id/2177838
- I have not heard of it directly but Hillary's campaign has been promoting it like they say that Obama is a muslim out to destroy the US in mass e-mails. Of usual Hillary knew nothing when they were caught.
- Not that I am aware of. Who started this rumor?
- No. He refused to wear an American flag lapel pin. They are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill, as always. I guess they think spreading that lie will convince voters that Obama is a Muslim "Manchurian candidate" and really wants the demise of America. Lol, talk about conspiracy nuts.
- No. They caught him once without his hand over his heart. Right-wing pundits have been trying to play that into a flat out refusal and hatred of America. It sickens me that people would make up lies like that. Some of these people know it is false but propagate these rumors anyway hoping atleast a few idiots will believe it.
- No, this was debunked shortly after it came out on youtube. The email world is slow to catch up and it is still flying around. The bottom line is it was the National Anthem and there is no requirement to put your hand over your heart, although some do in respect. There is a requirement to remove your hat, and from this photo, no one seems to be wearing a hat. It is also considered improper to move and look around during the National Anthem.
- No he didn't. Looks like you just made an yourself an enemy. He goes by the name of Earnest T 2.0. You should have never made him looked foolish.
- Obama does exactly as he says. So what? A lot of Americans don't put their hand over their hearts when reciting the pledge--I don't, because that's not how I was taught as a child. For eithe rthe pledge or the national anthem, I was taudhg to stand at attention . The right wing is simply showing how ignorant and narrow-minded they are. That's the way they show respect, fine. Other people do so in different ways. Contrary to wht they seem to think, they--or their customs--are not the totality of America. In fact they are a small minority.
- Thank you all for the links. I am pretty darn tired of saying the same thing over and over. But sure as I'm sitting here, this will be brought up again and again if Obama wins the nomination and there will still be numbskulls who believe it. John K: Perhaps instead of saying the Pledge, Hillary was singing the National Anthem? I do that myself and I know lots of others do, too...
- Can't argue with grandpa's logic...works every time for me. He is half right..Hand over heart on the pledge always and Star Spangled Banner at official functions when apart of the function, not when performed spontaneously...That is why we in the military salute when it is played at ceremony.
- I have seen photos of him with Hillary in the background in front of flags. Hillary has her hand over her heart and her mouth is open as if reciting the pledge. Obama is looking away, with clenched mouth and hand at side. A picture is worth a thousand words.
- He refused to as our national anthem was being sung, but was singing along. And you know flags were waving every where. I personally think out of respect that he should have, right or wrong, it was taught to me to do so.
