Rudy Giuliani Announces Knowledge Base
Do you think a commitment to "nation-building" is a good idea? In the latest Republican debate, Rudy Giuliani announced his plan to make "nation-building" a part of "what we have to teach our military." I was shocked. Isn't this exactly what everyone in the Republican party always knew was impossible? Haven't we tried and failed dismally every time it's been tried? Why didn't everyone go after him on that? Have we completely thrown out the entire Reagan agenda?
Rudy Giuliani; after knowing this.......Would you still vote for him? “Giuliani is arrogant, bigoted, ill tempered and a womanizer. He divorced his 2nd wife, Donna Hanover, by announcing it at a press conference instead of telling her first. He was having an affair with an aide living at Gracie Mansion while still married and mayor of NY and he took credit for all the good things that were done by others in NYC. He fired William Bratton; the police commissioner in 1994 when he found out he made the cover of Time magazine because he (Giuliani) wanted to take the credit for the innovative crime fighting. I lived in NY during his dictatorship, and believe me; I would not want him as president. His character is far worse than Bush & Clinton's worse faults rolled into one, if you can believe that's possible. His name should be Mussoliani. As for 9/11…. he’s no hero, he just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The real heroes of 9/11 were the NYC firefighters & police plus all the other forces from the surrounding tri-state areas who voluntarily came to pitch in & help us.” The above was posted by another member in asnwer to a similar question. After having dealt with the man on several occassions, I agree with her. My dad, now deceased, was a NYC firefighter for more than 20 yrs. Corey....but u did give a shit about Clinton's bJ....ah..the hypocrisy! It's OK for a con, but not for a democrat, eh? OK, here'a a link from Newsweek: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17081159/site/newsweek/
Is Barak Obaba a viable Presidential candidate? What advise and concerns should Obama address? What Presidential candidate has your interests? Barak Obama/Hillary Clinton ...Democrats vs. Rudy Giuliani/John McCain.......Republicans Would it make for an interesting race for the White House?...Contravercial? Obama Ties '08 Bid to Lincoln's Legacy Last Edited: Saturday, 10 Feb 2007, 4:05 PM PST Created: Saturday, 10 Feb 2007, 9:17 AM PST U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. waves to spectators as he arrives to announce his candidacy for president of the United States at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast) By NEDRA PICKLER Associated Press Writer SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Barack Obama announced his bid for president Saturday, a black man evoking Abraham Lincoln's ability to unite a nation and a Democrat portraying himself as a fresh face capable of leading a new generation. "Let us transform this nation," he told thousands shivering in the cold at the campaign's kickoff. Obama, 45, is the youngest candidate in the Democrats' 2008 primary field dominated by front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and filled with more experienced lawmakers. In an address from the state capital where he began his elective career 10 years ago, the first-term U.S. senator sought to distinguish himself as a staunch opponent of the Iraq war and a White House hopeful whose lack of political experience is an asset. "I know I haven't spent a lot of time learning the ways of Washington. But I've been there long enough to know that the ways of Washington must change," Obama said to some of the loudest applause of his 20-minute speech. Obama is looking to cap his remarkable, rapid rise to prominence with the biggest political prize of all -- the presidency. His elective career began just 10 years ago in the Illinois Legislature. He lost a bid for a U.S. House seat, then won the Senate seat in 2004, a relatively smooth election made easier by GOP stumbles. In his speech, Obama did not mention his roots as the son of a man from Kenya and a woman from Kansas, his childhood in Hawaii and Indonesia or the history he would make if elected. That compelling biography has turned him into a political celebrity.
Are Mitt Romney and Barack Obama popular just because they are handsome? I'm asking this in all seriousness. In the race for the White House, there are 7 candidates who are significantly more popular and stand out more than the others and they all have reasons: -Rudy Giuliani and John McCain are both popular because they are probably 2 of the most well known politicians in the United States, one as a mayor and the other as a senator. -Hillary Clinton is popular because of her role as first lady and because she is married to Bill Clinton. -John Edwards is popular because everyone knows him as the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate in 2004. -Fred Thompsan is popular among voters even before he has announced a run in the election because he is a famous actor. -However, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama were not relatively well known before the race for the 2008 election started. Yet the 5 people I named before were well known. And they are both probably the best looking candidates out of all the Democrats and Republicans. So could it be because of their looks that they are in the spotlight. I mean, I know they must have some good ideas, but so do the other candidates. Do you really think that if they looked like Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich, then they would be as popular? Don't call me stupid, because everyone knows what happened in the Nixon-Kennedy debate in 1960. Kennedy looked a lot better during the debate, and the people who saw it on T.V. said Kennedy won, but the people who heard it on the radio said Nixon won. I am not suggesting that the candidates that I mentioned do not have good ideas at all. I'm just trying to figure out why they are so much more famous than the others who also have good ideas. If you were to ask me who has the best ideas, I'd go for Ron Paul. Look him up. So could it be because of their looks that they are in the spotlight. If the 2008 elections were held today, who would you vote for? Of the following candidates: Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, Barack Obama, John McCain, Condoleeza Rice, Tom Vilsack (the governor of Iowa), or _____ (fill in the blank)? I know that not all of these people have announced their canidacy, but many of them have, and others are expected to announce their candidacy soon. Yes, folks, these ARE the likely candidates.
How does the media report the Israeli Palestinian Conflict? When we criticise the Chinese occupation of Tibet, nobody criticises us of being anti-Chinese. HISTORY and ORIGIN Understanding the conflict requires the knowledge of two important aspects; the history and origin of the conflict. In 1948 when Israel was established on 78% of historical Palestine, large numbers of Palestinians were made refugees. Some 500 villages were erased. In 1967 Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza. When the media reports the conflict, it rarely mentions the history and origin of the conflict. A study by Glasgow University Media Group which monitored TV news between Sept 28th and October 16th 2000 had found that out of 3500 lines of text in total, only 17 lines referred to the History of the conflict. (As detailed in the Glasgow Media Group Book “Bad News from Israel” 2004). It is worth noting that when facts are known people tend to change their views and some switch support. PERSPECTIVES: Israeli perspective: 1948 for Israelis was a war of independence “melhemet Haatzma’ut” but this resulted in the uprooting of more than 700,000 Palestinians who became refugees. The Palestinian perspective: 1948 for Palestinians was “The Nakba” The Catastrophe. Another Study by the Library of International Affairs (30th Oct 07) which Compared media articles over a period of months and reached some conclusions: From primarily Israeli perspective: Palestinians are terrorists From an Arab perspective: they are freedom fighters and the Israelis are illegal occupiers. From an Israeli perspective and indeed from the perspective of Israeli supporters: Ariel Sharon is a hero in the eyes of the Israelis. One New York Times columnist described him once as the feisty warrior, a kind of brave jolly stout fellow. But in Arab eyes he is a war criminal. Many Europeans and Arabs still consider Ariel Sharon as a devious and cunning politician and a murderer. Conclusion of this section: Different interpretations make it difficult to get the real picture. The interpretation is based on prejudices, experiences and interests of both sides. The Power of Headlines: The Glasgow University Media Group provided dozens of examples of misleading and inaccurate headline; however I mention below 2 or 3 examples: “Avenging their death, Israel hit back”. ITV March 3rd 02 “Israel had been dragged into a war on terror”. BBC December 6th 01 Here we can see that the emphasis is on portraying the Palestinian action and the Israeli retaliation. Palestinians are depicted as the trouble makers, the terrorists and Israel responds to teach them a lesson. The Illegal Settlers: In some Western and Israeli press the settlers are pioneers and defenders of biblical Israel. In 2003 B’tasleem an Israeli human rights group said: “the press often reports attacks by Palestinians but the facts are different. B’tasleem listed many examples of settlers setting up road blocks, shooting Palestinians at random burning of crops and cars etc etc. In Hebron 500 settlers make the life of 125000 Palestinians a misery, a hell On earth. 1994: Professor Israel Shahak described how “religious youths from Kiryat Arba were throwing stones on Palestinians. (Israel Shahak is known for his outspoken views about Jewish Religious Extremists). Collective punishment Curfews are imposed on Palestinians never on settlers. Ariel Sharon’s provocation: Violence sparked off 29th sept 2000 following a visit by Sharon to Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem. He was reported as saying “I came here with a message of peace”. To Arabs the visit was a provocation. President Bush described Sharon in 2002 as a man of peace But the rest of the world did not believe him. Samples from the BBC: BBC October 3rd 2000 “Ariel Sharon right wing enemy of the peace process” BBC November 1st 01 “Sharon used every opportunity he could to attack the Arabs as terrorists”. Guardian Newspaper UK October 3rd 2000 Amira Haas wrote “when the Intifida began 7 years after Oslo Accord all Palestinians feel betrayed”. Us duplicity: Two examples of US obvious bias: Bush uttered the following words in 2002: Sharon a man of peace. We learned later that the White House phone lines were jammed by Evangelical supporters of Israel demanding that President Bush says something nice about Ariel Sharon. President Bush and his Secretary of State Colin Powell: “Arafat must end terrorism.” This was despite the fact that both Bush and Powell knew that Arafat was under siege at the time. Global Issues Organization was more frank when it stated on July 30th 06 “Sharon a right wing and against peace who committed massacres”. Anti-Semitism and the stifling of debate: Jimmy Carter, former president and author of the book “Palestine, Peace not Apartheid” was attacked and accused of being Anti-Jewish and Anti-Semitic for writing about the pernicious impact of the Apartheid Wall. Professors Norman G Finkelstein and Mehrene Laurdee were denied tenure at De Paul University in Chicago for daring to criticise Israel. Professors John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago and Professor Stephen Watt, a Harvard Professor, were both criticised , slandered and boycotted for exposing the role of AIPAC and Jewish lobbies in Their book “The Israeli Lobby and the US foreign policy”. On the other hand Elaine Mcardle of the Boston Globe wrote recently “I was lobbied by Aipac. She exposed the tactics used by AIPAC to influence the opinion of journalists in Israel’s favour. Distortions on websites: Writing in a pro-Israel American internet website; Lorella, an American housewife who lived in Tel Aviv since 2001 wrote; “We sat in our living room in Tel Aviv and watched an interview with Saab Erekat, a Palestinian terrorist”. Saeb Erekat the chief Palestinian negotiator, a man who condemned violence and suicide bombers and was accused by Hamas and other extremists of being a friend of Israel because of his rejection of violence is a terrorist according to the Tel Aviv housewife. Another example on the same website: Headline: Terrorists prefer Hillary And they would rather see Rudy Giuliani dead than president. It transpired that a Palestinian in the West Bank said to a reporter “it would be good if Hilary follows her husband’s policy of promoting peace between Israelis and Palestinians”. CNN Paula Zahn Now July 24th 2007 on her TV program holds a book and announces “what does the book of revelation tell us about what is happening in the Middle East”. Was she trying to explain the current Middle East situation with reference to an ancient text? Why and in whose interest? (mediamatters.org) Anti-Semitism and Anti-Jewish Syndrome: The China/Tibet analogy: (Counter Punch a US based internet website): when we criticise the Chinese occupation of Tibet, nobody criticises us of being anti-Chinese. When we criticise Kim Jong IL, do we hate the Korean people. We can safely add by saying: When we criticise the Burmese military junta, we are not accused of being anti-Burmese or anti Buddhism. We often criticise Robert Mugabe or Parvis Musharraf but we are not told you are anti the people of Zimbabwe or anti-Muslims of Pakistan. To criticise the Iranian leadership does not mean you are anti-Shiite or anti Farsi people. When we criticise Hugo Chavez are we being haters of Venezuelan people? Why is it then, when someone criticises Israel he is accused of being Anti-Semitic and Anti-Jewish. The reporting of the killing of Mohd Al Durra: Elliot Resnick Jewish press staff reporter October 10th 2007” wrote “evidence mounts inflammatory image was staged” (The image of young Mohammad al-durra dying in the lap of his father struck down by Israeli bullets on Sept 30th 2000 was fake according to Israeli apologists). Boston University Professor Richard Landes (a pro-Israeli academic) Concludes that the entire episode was staged, but he did not offer convincing evidence for his conclusion. (theaugeanstables.com) October 2nd 2007 Natan Sharansky chairman of the Adelson Institute of Strategic Studies at the Shalen Centre in Jerusalem cast doubt on the Al-Durra incident. He blamed a French journalist for inflaming passions against Israel. In the same piece, he denied the Jenin massacre. But failed to explain why journalists and foreign aid workers were barred from entering Jenin for several days. Israel also refused to receive a UN commission of enquiry. Natan Sharansky was concerned that American students he had met in New York were troubled by the Al-Durra incident. (theaugeanstables.com) Gideon Levy’s wrote an editorial article in Haaretz at the time “as far as we can remember, there has been no other case in which Palestinian fired at the IDF and hit a Palestinian child. He was savaged by the cover-up brigade. POLITICIDE a book by Baruch Kimmerling and George Wise, two distinguished Professors(University of Toronto, and the Hebrew University): “Sharon’s objectives in the 1970s were to kill as many civilians as possible. Emphasise civilians (page 62) Page 74: “intentional killing of civilians is a war crime”. Pages 162 and 163: targeted killings to provoke reaction. Haaretz Aug 30th 2002: Moshe Ya’alon Chief of Staff was quoted as saying: "Palestinians are a cancer and the war against them is chemotherapy". Page 194 examples of the violations of the 4th Geneva Conventions: “Israel prevented emergency food into Hebron during the curfew”. Preventing medical aids and ambulances reaching Jenin and Ramallah etc. Page 205: Israeli actions are designed to provoke and irritate Palestinians to make them hate Israel more and more and desire revenge. This can be exploited by Israel in two ways first to show that Palestinians are not real partners for peace and secondly to create more facts on the ground as way of punishment i.e. expanding of settlements and confiscation of land etc. http://english.wa3ad.org/index.php?show=news&action=article&id=1794

A candidate that is not a quitter? CNN) – Underdog GOP presidential candidate Duncan Hunter lashed out at "knucklehead media executives" who did not include him in this weekend's New Hampshire primary debates, telling reporters he was staying in the race despite widespread expectations he would announce his withdrawal. The conservative California congressman criticized debate organizers at FOX and ABC for not extending him an invitation when "guys with zero delegates" like Rudy Giuliani and John McCain were allowed to participate in the events, saying they "decided my campaign was over, and the lights would be shut out on my campaign. "So here's my answer: I'm not going to quit. I'm staying in." What a candidate. A man who fights back. Isn't that admirable?
Majority of Americans favor attacking Iran, is that so? Zogby: Majority Favor Strikes on Iran Monday, October 29, 2007 9:47 PM Article Font Size A majority of likely voters - 52 percent - would support a U.S. military strike to prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon, and 53 percent believe it is likely that the U.S. will be involved in a military strike against Iran before the next presidential election, a new Zogby America telephone poll shows. The survey results come at a time of increasing U.S. scrutiny of Iran. According to reports from the Associated Press, earlier this month Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accused Iran of "lying" about the aim of its nuclear program and Vice President Dick Cheney has raised the prospect of "serious consequences" if the U.S. were to discover Iran was attempting to devolop a nuclear weapon. Last week, the Bush administration also announced new sanctions against Iran. Democrats (63 percent) are most likely to believe a U.S. military strike against Iran could take place in the relatively near future, but independents (51 percent) and Republicans (44 percent) are less likely to agree. Republicans, however, are much more likely to be supportive of a strike (71 percent), than Democrats (41 percent) or independents (44 percent). Younger likely voters are more likely than those who are older to say a strike is likely to happen before the election and women (58 percent) are more likely than men (48 percent) to say the same – but there is little difference in support for a U.S. strike against Iran among these groups. When asked which presidential candidate would be best equipped to deal with Iran – regardless of whether or not they expected the U.S. to attack Iran – 21 percent would most like to see New York U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton leading the country, while 15 percent would prefer former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and 14 percent would want Arizona U.S. Sen. John McCain in charge. Another 10 percent said Illinois Sen. Barack Obama would be best equipped to deal with Iran, while Republican Fred Thompson (5 percent), Democrat John Edwards (4 percent) and Republican Mitt Romney (3 percent) were less likely to be viewed as the best leaders to help the U.S. deal with Iran. The telephone poll of 1,028 likely voters nationwide was conducted Oct. 24-27, 2007 and carries a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points. Clinton leads strongly among Democrats on the issue, with 35 percent saying she is best equipped to deal with Iran, while 17 percent would prefer Obama and 7 percent view John Edwards as the best choice. Giuliani is the top choice of Republicans (28 percent), followed by McCain (21 percent) and Fred Thompson (9 percent). One in five independents chose Clinton (21 percent) over McCain (16 percent) and Giuliani (11 percent). Clinton was the top choice among women (24 percent), while 14 percent would be more confident with Giuliani in the White House and 11 percent would prefer McCain. Men slightly prefer McCain (18 percent) to Clinton (17 percent) on this issue, while 15 percent said Giuliani is best equipped to deal with Iran. The survey also shows there is a significant amount of uncertainty if any of the long list of declared candidates would be best equipped to deal the Iran – 19 percent overall said they weren’t sure which candidate to choose. There is considerable division about when a strike on Iran should take place – if at all. Twenty-eight percent believe the U.S. should wait to strike until after the next president is in office while 23 percent would favor a strike before the end of President Bush’s term. Another 29 percent said the U.S. should not attack Iran, and 20 percent were unsure. The view that Iran should not be attacked by the U.S. is strongest among Democrats (37 percent) and independents, but fewer than half as many Republicans (15 percent) feel the same. But Republicans are also more likely to be uncertain on the issue (28 percent). As the possibility the U.S. my strike Iran captures headlines around the world, many have given thought to the possibility of an attack at home. Two in three (68 percent) believe it is likely that the U.S. will suffer another significant terrorist attack on U.S. soil comparable to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 – of those, 27 percent believe such an attack is very likely. Nearly one in three (31 percent) believe the next significant attack will occur between one and three years from now, 22 percent said they believe the next attack is between three and five years away, and 15 percent said they don’t think the U.S. will be attacked on U.S. soil for at least five years or longer. Just 9 percent believe a significant terrorist attack will take place in the U.S. before the next presidential election. It seems to me that likely those who would approve attacking Iran , would have Iran being nuked rather than using ground forces such as in Irak or Aphganistyan. Teheran may become another Hiroshima or Nagasaki, ; with a H bomb nobody would remain alive there. If the disappearance of Teheran would still not be decisive another H-bomnb would need to be used or maybe several to erase Iran once and for all d from being hostile to the rest of the world. I do not believe Americans would support the like as Irak or Afghanistan. The use of H-bombs would save a lot of non-Iranian lives. Bear i n mind that in the war between Irak and Iran which lasted 10 years the Iranian mullahs claim that they lost one million Iranian lives. So it seems that the regime there does not value lives., am anotherreasn that it is a H-bomb attack which seemes to be the favorite tool to use against the Iranians. So, they will lose another million people . it seems they f do not care about their lives.

The example that he cited are based on relationships, yes- whether they be a cousin or a hairdresser. However, the GREAT BIG DIFFERENCE is that when someone goes out of their way to verbally expound the degree of influence that someone has on you as well as when you tout this person as a role model or "mentor" - well now this is VERY dofferent. By doing this, you indeed are connecting yourself to this person in every way since you indicated that their beliefs were used to mentor and foster your own beliefs. When you look up to someone as a mentor or role model, you are believing in the basic principles of theirs. Obama's open statements to th ereverend being his spiritual mentor and best friend makes his beliefs as suspect as the reverend's. In addition, Obama can now denounce all he wants to but how could he be a parishioner for 17 years and listen to these types of statements if as Obama NOW states are "outrageous"? I think that we need to realy questiob Obama's truthfullness or question his judgement. In either case, the country should seriously reconsider any support for such a candidate. It is frightening that Obama's paltform really emphasizes "change" and his real agenda would seem to indicate other. We need to change our support to Senator Clinton and assure her success in November.3/17/2008 9:05:12 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LISANROY wrote:amemended comments of dr kamal roy dt 3,17,2008LISANROY wrote:COMmENTS OF REV DR KAMAL KARNA Karuna ROY A REPUBLICAN CANIDATE AND HoPEFUL TO BE the NOMINEE OF GOP IN SCHEDULED ELECTION FOr NOV 4, 2008, IF BE HELD WITHOUT any COURT ORDER OF INJUNCTION to postpone corrpt election as PRAYED BY DR kamal k k ROY ALLEGING SKY_HIGH AND CLOUD_DARK CORRUPTIONS BY DEFENDANTS IN CIVIL ACTIONS FILED IN 20+ U S D COURT actions in 20+ different JURISDICTIONS with allegations against defendants for negligence to enforce laws not TO PUSH OUT ELECTORAL CONTESTANTS FROM WEAKER COMMUNITIES OF HAVE-nots 3/17/2008 9:04:05 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy rmorris391 wrote:well this is "midly amusing". While the Mainstream Media (MSM) has too much time on its hands, to consider a long winded campaign, the focus has shifted to non-political discourse, about intractable problems that confound american society. We have issues related to baseball players, after all, who alledgedly used illegal substances to puff up their biceps. Certainly, congress can devise a surge campaign to intervene with major league baseball, and save the poor players from the rich players. After all, the economic crisis in MLB is looming, and requires some "foreign ownership equity." This is, afterall the land of "ownership." At least that is what a young president Bush promised the american public. The Wright story was not out when he was getting votes from whites due to his "unity" message. It falls flat now. As I said before, I think he loses that Wright issue any way you slice it. Either he didn't think his church was controversial or he didn't know. Which is it? Supporting someone who you say is your "mentor" who says "appalling" things with thousands of dollars is worse than saying them yourself. At least the pastor is being honest. Roy has filed lawsuits against God, U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, fast food restaurants, foreign leaders.[2], and Wikipedia [3] [4].Roy's lawsuits have addressed, among many other things, actions taken by President George W. Bush, overcharging by telecommunication companies, the appointment of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and "failure of democratic societies and God's role therein."[5] In 2006 Judge Michael W. McConnell of The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit described a typical Roy complaint:Roy, a/k/a Joseph Geronimo, Jr. filed a 115-page complaint, a 144-page amended complaint, and a 40-page second amended complaint against over sixty defendants, including among many others President Bush, God as U.S.-based divine benefactor, several government agencies, The New York Times, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6]The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court's dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7]Most, if not all, of Roy's complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v. U.S., describes Roy as "no stranger to litigation" and provides a partial list of Roy lawsuits that have been dismissed since 1991.[8]Despite Roy's lack of success in the courts, his lawsuits have been discussed in law school classrooms and in law related blogs.[9] [10]In April 2007 Roy filed a civil rights action against, among others, CBS Broadcasting Inc., MSNBC, the United States Government, and controversial radio shock jock Don Imus.[11]In October, 2007, Roy filed a suit in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, against "Wikipedia Encyclopedia, USA, All News Media, All State Board of Elections, Federal Election Commission". Guilani broke up with his wife at a press conference and praised his mistress, what do u think? Why would you trust a man that did this? This is an article from some years ago: Mr. Giuliani all but conceded that he was having an affair with Judith Nathan, a woman he has been squiring about town and whom he calls his “very good friend.” Then, on May 10, Mr. Giuliani announced at a press conference that he was seeking a separation from his wife, Donna Hanover—without first informing her of his decision. Mr. Giuliani went out of his way to praise his mistress as a “very, very fine woman,” and said about his marriage with Ms. Hanover: “Over the course of some period of time in many ways, we’ve grown to live independent and separate lives.” The mayor’s assertion was contradicted three hours later by his emotionally distraught wife, who said, “I had hoped that we could keep this marriage together. For several years, it was difficult to participate in Rudy’s public life because of his relationship with one staff member.” Ms. Hanover was because of his relationship with one staff member.” Ms. Hanover was referring to Cristyne Lategano-Nicholas, the mayor’s former communications director. The mayor and Ms. Lategano-Nicholas denied those allegations in the past, and continue to deny them now. Even if Ms. Hanover’s account is not fully accurate, we know that Mr. Giuliani, the married father of two children, ages 14 and 10, is engaged in a very public, intimate relationship with another woman. This is troubling in itself. And if Ms. Hanover’s account is to be believed, we have a situation in which the mayor had an adulterous relationship with a staff member, lied about it, agreed to his wife’s efforts at reconciliation, only to leave her for yet another woman. This would be more serious still. Regardless of whose account you believe, Mr. Giuliani has publicly humiliated his wife, grievously hurt his children and behaved dishonorably. Republicans are conservative, how does rudy and his mistresses fit in? Sounds like he should join bills party. he said NYC needed him and wanted to be mayor some extra months. He was also thinking about overruling a law and be mayor for 4 more years.
Is Google influencing the presidential race? In August 2006, just a few months in advance of the midterm elections, 26 million citizens were logging on to the Internet to get information about the campaigns, according to a survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. That amounts to 13 percent of all adults in the country using the Internet as a tool to make informed political decisions. Nobody doubts that the Internet is increasingly invaluable for disseminating political news and information as well as campaign organizing and fundraising. Unfortunately, disinformation and media manipulation are the chocolate and peanut butter of politics. Substantial pitfalls remain for ordinary citizens looking to the Internet for up-to-date and accurate political information. For example, when you search the Internet for information are you seeing an objective listing of what’s notable about that candidate or issue — or are you seeing what someone else wants you to see? That’s the question raised by “Google bombing” — Internet slang for an attempt to influence the rankings of search-engine results by manipulating the algorithm Google uses to catalogue web pages. Google-bombing techniques can be quite sophisticated, but in a nutshell: If enough blogs and/or web pages link to something using the same “anchor text“ in the link, then that web page will shoot to the top of the Google results for the search phrase. One recent example of Google bombing is how Stephen Colbert shot to the top of the Google results for “greatest living American” by imploring his audience to create links on their blogs and websites that linked the anchor text “greatest living American” to Colbert’s website. However, many Google bombs are expressly political. The second Google bomb ever created made George W. Bush temporarily the top search result for “dumb mother**ker.” Since then, Google bombs have gradually gone from jokes and base political expression to an organized campaign to affect public opinion in a way that some would say is insidious. In some cases, a relatively small number of blogs have had a huge impact on the rankings — possibly as few as 32 blogs were able to make the White House biography page for George W. Bush the number one search result for “miserable failure” back in 2003. And notably, since the inception of Google bombing seven years ago, political Google bombs have been predominantly a tactic of the Left. While Google bombing isn’t exclusive to Democratic partisans (in 2004 a Republican blogger instigated a successful Google bomb for John Kerry and “waffles”), the liberal blogosphere is far more actively trying to Google bomb Republican candidates. “The whole concept is born of the idea that both voters and journalists are going to Google to find information about candidates for office. If the liberal blogs can place links with damaging information about Republicans in front of journalists and voters, then they think they can negatively influence that candidate’s electoral chances,” said William Beutler, Senior Online Analyst at New Media Strategies and originator of the Hotline's Blogometer column, in addition to being the writer behind BlogPI.net, a blog devoted to tracking developments in the political blogosphere. Here’s how the liberal blogosphere put Google bombing to work in the 2006 midterm elections. In late October, just a few weeks prior to the midterm election, blogger Chris Bowers* — who’s been the key instigator of Google bombing Republican candidates — crossposted a plan to Google bomb 70 key congressional races on the hugely popular liberal blogs MyDD.com and DailyKos.com: Step One: With help from readers at Dailykos and MyDD, I will compile a list of seventy articles, one for each targeted race. Every article will focus on a different Republican candidate, and will be written by as generally trusted a news source as possible. It will also present as unflattering a view on the Republican candidate as possible. All of these articles will be placed into a database that I will maintain with the help of willing volunteers. Step Two: Once the database is complete, BlogPac will purchase Google Adwords that will place each negative article on the most common searches for each Republican candidate. Simultaneously, I will produce an article on MyDD that embeds that negative article into a hyperlink that names the Republican candidate. I will then send a copy of that post out to as many bloggers as possible, who can also place the post on their blogs. One posting of this article will be enough. Step Three: All further discussion of the Republican candidates in question on all participating blogs should include an embedded hyperlink that will increase the Google search rank of the article on the given candidate. The result of this should be that the most damning, non-partisan article written on every key Republican candidate for House and Senate will appear both high on every Google search for that candidate, and automatically as an advertisement on every search for that candidate. BlogPac will cover the costs. The netroots will supply the research. Obviously, the 2006 midterms went very well for Democrats, though there’s no way to quantify the contribution of Google bombing to the Democrats’ electoral success, especially amidst all the G.O.P. scandal and other national developments heading up to that election. But it can’t be discounted either. A good case study is Kansas Congressman Jim Ryun, who lost a narrow election for his seat in 2006 and was one of the candidates subject to the netroots Google-bombing attack. “When a campaign goes wrong and a five-term incumbent loses, there are a whole lot of things that have gone wrong. So was the Google bombing the sole reason we lost? No. Was it a part of it? Yes, but how big a part I don’t know,” said Drew Ryun, the former congressman’s son and himself a former deputy director in the grassroots division of the Republican National Committee. Beutler, however, thinks that Google-bombing attacks are often less than effective. “You’re assuming that your link is putting information in front of journalists or voters that they didn’t already have. Unfortunately, the things they are linking to are always things that the [liberal] netroots have calculated will be bad for their candidate,” he said. The wisdom of crowds doesn’t always apply to the netroots in this respect, notes Beutler, who cites a recent Google-bomb attack on John McCain. “With McCain their Google bomb was something about McCain supporting the Iraq war … I think everybody knows John McCain is a strong supporter of the war in Iraq — that’s never been in doubt. I don’t think they’re fundamentally changing anyone’s perception of him,” he said. Further, Google is not amused by the continued attempts to interfere with the purity of search results. The first reaction at the Mountain View headquarters was to ignore the manipulation of the search engine. “We don’t condone the practice of Google bombing, or any other action that seeks to affect the integrity of our search results, but we’re also reluctant to alter our results by hand in order to prevent such items from showing up,” according to a statement Google released on its website in 2005. But Google bombing has remained a persistent problem, so much so that in January of this year Google announced that it had tweaked its search algorithm to minimize the impact of Google bombing. Despite this, many Google bombs remain intact. As of now, the story the liberal netroots Google bombed to paint Ryun in a negative light in 2006 — an unsubstantive hit piece from the Topeka paper on whether or not Ryun merely forgot or actively lied about living on the same Capitol Hill street as scandal-beleaguered Congressman Mark Foley — remains the sixth-ranked Google result for Jim Ryun. Still, few Google bombs make it to the top result where they could have the most impact. “When the average person uses Google they are overwhelmingly likely to click on the very first link or the first couple of links, even by the eighth link on a page at that point very few people are clicking through to it,” Beutler noted, citing studies of how search engines are used. “I’ve seen Bowers announce with enthusiasm that ‘we’ve got this one link up to, like 45.’After the first page it’s almost completely worthless,” he tells National Review Online. Regardless, the liberal blogosphere, and Bowers in particular (who did not respond to a query for this piece), remain actively engaged in Google bombing and seem to have few if any ethical qualms about the lack of transparency. “If you look at Bowers writings on this, he refers to this as SEO — “Search Engine Optimization“ — but it’s not. They are really trying to game search engines,” Beutler says. “It’s not making the pages better, it’s not doing the organic things that Google is supposed to do.” But even if Google bombing is ineffective more often than not, the risk and effort are minimal compared to the potential reward. Bowers claims somewhat hyperbolically that Google bombing is a “quick action that can eventually be worth the equivalent of tens of millions of dollars in national TV ads.” However, for the time being, it still appears to be paying off. As a result of a Bowers-instigated Google bomb, a story noting that 9/11 hero Rudy Giuliani was the only candidate not invited to speak to a recent Firefighters Union Presidential candidate forum, is currently the #6 Google result, just one link below the Time magazine story pronouncing him 2001’s Man of the Year. And Google bombing is sure to accelerate as the 2008 election progresses. Meanwhile, this has many concerned about how this is just another example of how Republicans are outmatched when it comes to tapping the resources of the Internet for political gain. “I think in 2006 the Democrats and their allies became very adept at using the Internet as a very effective political tool in a sense to offset what they felt was the unfair advantage of conservative talk radio,” says Drew Ryun. “I think we saw in 2006, if [the Democrats] didn’t perfect it they came close to it — Jim Ryun wasn’t the only Republican that got dinged. I think the Republicans and the conservatives have one of two options, let them keep winning or figure out a more effective Internet strategy going into 2008. If there is room to improve, the Left is going to find a way.”

Andrew Romano New Supporter: Obama with Lewis. Photo: John Amis/AP. On Wednesday I wrote that "depending how March 4 shakes out, [the Potomac Primary] results--and the likely Obama wins in Wisconsin and Hawaii--may help determine the Democratic nominee by the ides of March." My thinking went like this: After eight (and maybe 10 straight wins), the Illinois senator will lead at that point by more than 100 pledged delegates--but it won't be enough to reach magic number (2,025) by the end of primary season in June. Looking ahead, the 400 uncommitted Democratic superdelegates--the only people with the power to put either Clinton or Obama over the top--will have a choice: 1) prolong the contest through the convention, ensuring a messy, divisive battle involving Florida, Michigan and back room wheeling and dealing or 2) move en masse to the "people's choice" and get busy uniting the party for November. But is Obama's tipping point coming sooner than even I expected? Yesterday afternoon, the New York Times (among others) reported that Rep. John Lewis, an elder statesman from the civil rights era and one of Hillary Clinton’s most prominent black supporters, is suddenly planning to cast his vote as a superdelegate for Obama in" hopes of preventing a fight at the Democratic convention." “In recent days, there is a sense of movement and a sense of spirit,” said Lewis. “Something is happening in America, and people are prepared and ready to make that great leap.” Hungry for news on a slow day, the media responded with typical breathlessness. "Floodgates could open," wrote Time's Mark Halperin, a reliable peddler of Beltway CW. "If Lewis breaks away, take whatever you thought Clinton’s chances of winning the nomination before and divide that number by as much as two — those would be the odds of her winning now." Whoa, nelly. Not so fast. Sure, Lewis's "defection" is significant--but in a limited sense. For one thing, it's not really a defection; instead, Lewis is still endorsing Clinton (for the time being) but promising to cast his superdelegate vote at the convention with his Atlanta-area district, which voted three-to-one for Obama--if it comes to that. Lewis's confusing stance symbolizes a very specific political challenge facing black elected superdelegates--and black elected superdelegates only. If Obama maintains his lead among pledged delegates, members of the Congressional Black Caucus who have endorsed Clinton will face enormous pressure to switch sides. Like Lewis, many represent districts where Obama earned 85 to 90 percent support among black voters--meaning to defy their constituents and cast a vote that lots of people would see as stealing the election from the first black president would be tantamount to political suicide. Advertisement Over the past few weeks, there's been a slow drift of superdelegate support from Clinton to Obama. Not counting Lewis, Obama has gained 12 superdelegates since Feb. 5, while Clinton has lost a net of three. But until we start seeing a greater number of pols making the leap to Obama without such political pressure, I think it's a bit early to say the floodgates have opened. It may happen; it may not. But any potential tipping point is still a ways away. Featured, Barack Obama Permalink: http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/02/15/obama-s-tipping-point-not-yet.aspx Sphere It! Offense Taken In this campaign, there is no room for remarks of any sort on any subject. - By Michael Kinsley Commentsscschmidt wrote: Michael Kinsley's article, "Offense Taken" is way off base. We need to change our support to Senator Clinton and assure her success in November. 3/17/2008 9:05:12 PM Recommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LISANROY wrote: amemended comments of dr kamal roy dt 3,17,2008 LISANROY wrote: COMmENTS OF REV DR KAMAL KARNA Karuna ROY A REPUBLICAN CANIDATE AND HoPEFUL TO BE the NOMINEE OF GOP IN SCHEDULED ELECTION FOr NOV 4, 2008, IF BE HELD WITHOUT any COURT ORDER OF INJUNCTION to postpone corrpt election as PRAYED BY DR kamal k k ROY ALLEGING SKY_HIGH AND CLOUD_DARK CORRUPTIONS BY DEFENDANTS IN CIVIL ACTIONS FILED IN 20+ U S D COURT actions in 20+ different JURISDICTIONS with allegations against defendants for negligence to enforce laws not TO PUSH OUT ELECTORAL CONTESTANTS FROM WEAKER COMMUNITIES OF HAVE-nots 3/17/2008 9:04:05 PM Recommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy rmorris391 wrote: well this is "midly amusing". After all, the economic crisis in MLB is looming, and requires some "foreign ownership equity." This is, afterall the land of "ownership." With seven weeks until Pennsylvania, a constant stream of superdelegate endorsements is a good way to create the impression of momentum--whether or not the supers in question decided to endorse today, yesterday or last month. Conversely, a sudden flood this week might've struck observers as a show of pre-March 4 support--and left them wondering whether Obama could keep attracting superdelegates after Clinton's wins in Ohio and Texas. Now it *looks like* he is. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama
Is McCain moving his campaign backwards? Former Rudy Giuliani campaign manager Mike Duhaime will be the new political director for John McCain’s campaign, officials announced Sunday. Duhaime is the first hire by Steve Schmidt since he took over operational control of the campaign last week. Before working on the former New York City mayor’s unsuccessful campaign bid, Duhaime was political director of the Republican National Committee. He also served as a regional political director for the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2004. Duhaime is a protege of former RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, who developed an elaborate national get-out-the-vote effort for the Bush campaign in 2004. http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/07/06/mccain-hires-giuliani-campaign-manager-as-new-political-director/
