Mike Huckabee On The Issues Knowledge Base

where does mike huckabee stand on abortion, gay marriage, the war in iraq, and other such issues? I need some unbiased info on this candidate. i don't want only good or only bad things, ok? i want every TRUE fact that is WORTH knowing. not just useless stuff.. thanks! i can't seem to find the right web site that gives all the facts on his stance on issues. thanks! :)
Is Mike Huckabee (R) at WAR with the environment? FROM RELATED ARTICLE: THE GREENS MUST BE CRAZY Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) lashed out at "wacko environmentalists" who, he alleged, "want to tell us what deodorant we can use and what kind of gas to put in our car." Last April, Huckabee, a Baptist minister, added a religious gloss to that assessment, telling the Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation that "environmentalists are those who worship the things He made rather than He who made them." But when 44 public-interest groups accused him by letter of "demagoguery on a scale beyond that normally seen in the course of public debate," Huckabee issued a mea culpa. "It would have been more appropriate," he said, "if I made a distinction between environmentalists and those who could be considered `extreme' environmentalists."
Mike Huckabee..? I really like his stand on religion and how much he revolves his life around his faith, and I really like his views on illegal immigration. But then it comes down to the war in Iraq. Not only does he want to continue the war (He thinks that America HAS to win.. NEWS FLASH: There's nothing to win, I thought the point was the help their country..) he wants to increase the wars budget. I personally think that there has already been too much money spent on this war, that we could be using to improve our own nation. He is also pro-life (Which is fine because I am too..) BUT.. he is against stem cell research. I don't understand this, due to the fact that it could cure tons of diseases and save billions of lives. I just want to hear from Huckabee supporters and Huckeabee haters. I like the man.. ALOT, I just can't seem to agree with these two issues. What's your opinion?? -Britt
what are the major differences between Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee? As far as their stance on the issues are concerned.
Mike Huckabee copied ron paul? Did Mike Huckabee copy Ron Paul with regards to eliminating the IRS? We all know Ron Paul has a long track record of voting consistently on these issues, but what about Huckabee?
Does Mike Huckabee have a plan to turn America into a Theocracy? Huckabee had his 2nd job at age 23 working for James Robison, a televangelist whose earnings through Life Outreach Ministry have exceeded 1 million dollars. Huckabee signed the Child Welfare Agency Licensing Act in 1997. This bill has provisions which allow religious groups to contract for social services with the state without having to compromise their principles. Huckabee's administration issued guidelines in October 2000, which allow religious groups to offer voluntary religious programs and to leave their religious artifacts on the walls. Religious groups are allowed to reject a job candidate on religious grounds. On April 11, 2001, Huckabee signed the "Covenant Marriage Act," which is a marriage contract option that compels the couple to seek counseling if problems develop during the marriage, and only allows for a divorce pending a felony conviction or spousal abuse. Is this guy maybe just a little "too religious" to be the leader of the free world?
I notice alot of conservative people who seem to hate Mike Huckabee.? The feelings are usually from that conservative website freerepublic.com. Huckabee's campaign website has what seem to be very conservative stances on the "issues" and I'm confused, then, as to why people continue to say he's rather liberal. Please, I'm only seeking to learn as much as I can about every candidate on both sides of the aisle, so don't flame me or respond with any angry, biased comments. I welcome thoughts from all parties and independents.
Is Mike Huckabee showing his lack of integrity early? NY Times article quote: Former Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas today professed his support for the striking television writers union just a few hours before he was expected to board a plane for a taping of the Jay Leno show where he will face a vocal picket line of striking writers. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Huckabee said he was unaware that he would be crossing picket lines and believed that the program had reached a special agreement with the union. Although crossing picket lines might not be unusual for most Republican candidates, Mr. Huckabee has waged an unusual populist campaign on economic issues, stressing his empathy with the anxieties of working people. On Wednesday, he said he identified with the striking television workers as an author himself and believed they deserved a share of the proceeds from the sale of their work. Does anyone believe his lame excuse? Is he so desperate that he already reverses his public statements? Is he as clueless as our current President? http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/02/huckabee-will-cross-picket-line-to-appear-on-leno/
Hey Pollsters, Can Mike Huckabee be believed and trusted? Mike Huckabee stands where on these issues.? 1.) Abortation 2.) Global Warming 3.) War in Iraq 4.) Immigration 5.) Gay Rights
Mike Huckabee and the Mormon issue? Mike Huckabee was slammed for stating that Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers...but if you read the Mormon's own Doctrine it states that "Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and we were born as siblings in heaven to them both, Mormon Doctrine, pg. 163" Do you think he should have had to apologize? http://www.carm.org/lds/lds_doctrines.htm I don't think he has anything to apologize for..he was stating the truth!
Mike Huckabee: Does he have a Health Care plan? What exactly ...? is his plan? I've read around about him and his dither on the subject seems very non specific. Anyone know more about this and what do you think of this man? He seems really good to me on most issues that I deem important.
Does it bother you that baptist minister Mike Huckabee is for the death penalty? And as governor has put people to death, isn't that playing God? Where in the new testament does it say that if a government decides that it is OK that it is OK for you to go ahead and kill someone if you are a minister? What about suicide and assisted suicide then? Yet people are so worried about abortion being murder, I just don't get it, can someone explain? It seemes like a big control issue to me.
Are Women In Trouble If Mike Huckabee Is Elected President? He believes that women should be submissive to men. I would love to see him debate Hillary Clinton on that issue. That will be very entertaining.
Should Mike Huckabee using religion in his ad really be that big of a deal? I'm not conservative nor am I religious and prefer the seperation of church and state however I'm not bothered by it. Everyone knows he is Christian and a huge part of his image and the seperation of him from the other canidates is his religion. Should it really be an issue that it is in his ad?
Where Republican presidential candidates stand on specific issues? How do Mitt Romney, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Rudy Guliani, Fred Thompson, and Ron Paul stand on specific issues such as foreign policy (especially for Iraq), taxes, abortion, health care, education, gay marriage, gun control, and other issues you think are important. You may tell me about just one candidate if you would like, or 2, or all of them. It doesn't matter to me. However, I would appreciate unbiased answers. Thanks!
Is Huckabee the new Reagan? Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has seized on an issue - U.S. sovereignty - that could not only win him the Republican nomination for president but propel him into the White House. The conventional wisdom is that the former Arkansas governor is starting to get traction because of his views on social issues. While that is undoubtedly a factor, it is also the case that Huckabee for several weeks has been hitting hard on the issue of restoring American sovereignty and resisting the advance of United Nations-led global government. Meantime, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, John McCain, and Mitt Romney have been tiptoeing around the issue, refusing to address or confront the problem that is on the minds of millions of Americans - the decline of America as a sovereign nation and the growing power of international institutions and foreign judges over our lives and destiny as a nation. In fact, as William P. Clark and Edwin Meese noted in an October 8 Wall Street Journal column, the problems were not fixed and Reagan would still reject the pact. Clark served as national security adviser and Meese served as Attorney General under Reagan. They said Reagan would see the treaty as an "effort to promote global government at the expense of sovereign nation states - and most especially the United States." By opposing this treaty, Huckabee is demonstrating that he has Reagan's vision. Conservatives are taking note and rallying to his cause. The media will be forced to take notice eventually. Is Huckabee the most Reagan-like of the Republican candidates? The Family Research Council's recent "values voters" event in Washington, D.C. received extensive coverage. But Huckabee's strong denunciation of the U.N.'s Law of the Sea Treaty, which is now up for Senate ratification, was generally ignored in the press coverage. He not only attacked the treaty and its provision for an international tribunal to judge America's conduct on the high seas, but he urged the impeachment of any federal judge who recognized international law above the U.S. Constitution. "Any federal judge who uses some international law as a precedent to make a court decision ought to be impeached," he said to strong applause. Among the attendees at the summit who voted in person, Huckabee came away with 51 percent of the vote. The runner-up, Mitt Romney, received just 10 percent. Huckabee's success is due, in part, to adopting the Reagan approach to national security matters. As a candidate, Ronald Reagan had established himself with conservative voters by opposing Jimmy Carter's Panama Canal Treaty and urging the roll-back of Soviet-style communism. As President, of course, Reagan prevailed in the confrontation with the former Soviet Union. But many forget that the Senate ignored his warnings about the Panama Canal giveaway and passed the treaty anyway, with the result being that the communist Chinese today control the ports at both ends of the canal. Our nation should have listened to Reagan earlier and often. Showing similar vision, Huckabee sees the Law of the Sea Treaty as a massive giveaway of U.S. sovereignty and resources that must be stopped. This was Reagan's position. Reagan refused to sign it as president. All of the liberal Senate Democrats will vote for the treaty, of course, but some Senate Republicans, citing the Bush Administration's endorsement of it, are considering joining with Joe Biden, Harry Reid & Company and providing the 67 votes it needs for passage. It will be a defining moment, determining whether the Republicans of the future will be Bush Republicans or Reagan Republicans. http://www.gopusa.com/commentary/ckincaid/2007/ck_10221.shtml
Do you love putting your faith in the Democratic process? GOP Nomination? Rudy? Huckabee? McCain? et al? I'm a big fan of Rudy...I don't agree with him on every issue, but I have a great appreciation for his record of accomplishment. Having grown up just outside of NYC, I watched the liberal establishments bashed him while he followed simple fundamental axioms like putting all criminals behind bars, lowering taxes...and a revolution like none I ever saw in my life happened. I happened to believe he could translate that simle yet profound success into a foreign policy. Still, I like the whole field of GOP Candidates and look forward to debates, campaigns, issues raised etc.,., I like how Mike Huckabee has raised himself up out of the crowd and moved into the top tier. I always like McCain---a true conservative(save for stupid campaign finance law) and thought he'd have been a better choice than George W. ...I really want the best candidate to emerge and BEAT Hillary, the crooked witch.
During the next GOP debate, who will ask Mike Huckabee if he will "suffer a witch to live"? Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. If you're going to run a campaign based upon being a fundamentalist bible-thumper, then let's not pretend that you're a reasonable man or that such questions are off limits. After all, it is Huckabee who pressed the issue.
Who likes Mike? I've been looking at Mike Huckabee's issues and ideas. I'm just wondering who else supports Huck and why?
Who agrees that Mike Huckabee is stupid? Isolating Aids carriers!? Mike Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could "pose a dangerous public health risk." ADVERTISEMENT\ As a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, Huckabee answered 229 questions submitted to him by The Associated Press. Besides a quarantine, Huckabee suggested that Hollywood celebrities fund AIDS research from their own pockets, rather than federal health agencies. "If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague," Huckabee wrote. It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue If you would like to read the full thing it is <http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071208/ap_on_el_pr/huckabee_aids> I think he is stupid in suggesting Aids carriers be gathered and put together. It is very hard to recieve aids and those who do dont practice safe sex or they use needles used by those who carry AIDS. This is 2007 and his idea seems stupid its not like its infectious. I feel sad for people who have AIDS they have a hard life as is

He comes off incredibly two-faced and unethical while wrapping the trappings of religion around him.
What issues is Mitt Romney considered liberal on, also? What issues has he flip flopped on? Aside from abortion. I've heard a lot of reasons as to why John McCain and Mike Huckabee are considered liberal, but never Mitt Romney.
If Mike Huckabee does not support amnesty then please explain this? If Huckabee does not support amnesty for illegal aliens and is different on this issue from John McCain or George W. Bush (or even for that matter Hillary Clinton), please explain what he is saying here, on his own campaign video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjSQpNZYu1E A thing by another name...is still that thing. Star and Stripes- They all say they are for border security (even the Democrats)...the question is to amnesty. The video I listed is from Huckabee's own campaign, if he does not agree with himself then it should not be on his web site or on youtube posted by him.
What if Democrats raise the issue that McCain was not a natural-born US citizen ? Mike Huckabee did not raise this issue. Understandablly he is a good republiccan. What if the democrat raise this issue, and willing go to court to chanllenge it ?
Did Mike Huckabee submarine his own campaign yesterday? By stating that abortion rights is a federal govt. issue to ban, and not an individual state issue for citizens to decide? Typically Republicans favor state's rights over federal govt. control, but if Huckabee gets his way, the feds will make the decision. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071118/ap_on_el_pr/huckabee;_ylt=AmdM5V0R2cwPvD2e21g.E0ms0NUE BTW: Although I am an atheist, I like Huckabee (and willing to ignore his baptist minister roots) and probably would have voted for him, if he won the nomination. Now I am not so sure. neo pirate and mustagme: So are you endorsing a nanny-style federal govt. which is going to protect us from everything? Is that the solution? What if the will of the people dictates otherwise?
Does Mike Huckabee have a chance of winning the election? I sure do hope he does. http://www.mikehuckabee.com http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Issues.Home
Huckabee vs Science? I like Mike Huckabee as a person. I think he's a decent, intelligent man. But he scares the c**p out of me as a presidential candidate, as I think his warped view of science could be a hinderance to American science. For instance, since he rejects evolution, does that mean the biological research done by genetic scientists operating on federal grants would be cut loose? Since the universe is, according to Huckabee, only a few thousand years old, does that mean the Hubble Space Telescope, which can see stars thousands (or more) light years away, should lose it's funding? This is beyond the obvious issues of reproductive rights and stem cell research...
If Mike Huckabee does not support amnesty then please explain this...? If Huckabee does not support amnesty for illegal aliens and is different on this issue from John McCain or George W. Mike Huckabee Question - Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!? Does anyone else think he looks like Jim Nabors? I can only think of Gomer Pyle when he's on the news............ This is NOT a character issue - even though I am not a supporter of his - just an observation and a question for R & S.
MAX: If our current Presidential candidates REFUSE to honorably deal with the issues, what can be done . . . ? If our current Presidential candidates REFUSE to honorably deal with the issues, what can be done or what can we do? Would you agree with the following: 1. Organize in an effort to bring public pressure on the candidates. 2. By organizing, you can make your collective voices heard and action can then be taken. 3. If you don't organize, our current politicians will take the easy road out and not stand up for freedom, justice, and democratic values ... as many have no intestinal fortitude and no integrity. This, the above, can be said about Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Alan Keyes, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Tom Tancredo, Fred Thompson, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Christopher Dodd, Barak Obama, John Edwards, Mile Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson, and perhaps Al Gore among them all. Would you agree with me that the public SHOULD be told and made aware of the real issues (true issues), so that the will be in a position to make better choices in 2008? . I AM NOT LOOKING FOR STUPID, QUICKY ANSWERS or one liners. This is a very serious issue and I would like to (1) see your opinions and (2) well-thought-out ideas and answers! No two or three word answers, please! I allow people to change or modify their answers from time to time and this is such a serious and important question that it merits your very sincere and undivided attention. . If you have any questions, you may e-mail me at peacenegotiator at gmail dot com and I will post your letter with answers at http://chinatownhawaii.com/answers . . ===================================== dstr, thank you very much for expressing your concerns. My statements above and question is directed to all posters and not just to Dennis Kucinich fans. My position on Election 2008 is that I would like to see the best person and hopefully an honest and upright person become our next President. (1) The future will hold many challenges for America and (2) China will or may have an upright President at its helm. A good man, an honorable man, a truthful man, who is and will be a good and capable leader. We hope the same for the US as we, Chinese, some of us, are not an axis of evil! If America does not meet up to the challenge, then perhaps the evil that America has done in the Bush administration will be made known and will become apparent to the entire world nations. Goodness is better, than Rudy and Hillarry lies about Iraq, said as an example and not necessarily as an attack on Giuliani and Clinton. . Ps: My link is not up yet. Thank you. I do appreciate your kindness. .
Is Southern Baptist Minister Mike Huckabee (R) an even bigger flip-flopper than Mitt Romney? 2007 "My faith is my life - it defines me. My faith doesn't influence my decisions, it drives them. For example, when it comes to the environment, I believe in being a good steward of the earth. I don't separate my faith from my personal and professional lives." http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Issues.Home 1996 and 2004 "Environmentalists are those whakos who want to tell you what kind of deoderant to use... they worship the things God made instead of worshipping him." http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1525/is_n5_v83/ai_21137662/pg_9 More 'doublespeak' from Huckabee's own website: "We do need to get serious about preventive health care instead of chasing more and more dollars to treat chronic disease, which currently gobbles up 80% of our health care costs, and yet is often avoidable. The result is that we'll be able to deliver better care where and when it's needed." (which translates to "we can save money by not caring for people who are going to die.")
Ending IRS? Ron Paul vs Mike Huckabee? Both are for the elimination of the IRS, but what is actually the difference from this video? It's a 2min clip comparing both. Who do you think has the best idea on this issue? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHilf4xibUY
Why are you voting for Mike Huckabee? This is for informational purposes. NO ONE LINE OR VAGUE ANSWERS! Only respond if you ARE voting for Huckabee. I want real dialogue, no put downs are insults. In what way did Romney govern like a liberal in Massachusetts? I have yet to hear a solid explanation to the claims that Romney is a liberal republican. More liberal than John McCain or Mike Huckabee, I'm told. Can anyone explain on what issues he is liberal on?
Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says abortion . . . .? is a moral issue. He thinks the President, or at least the Federal government, should be the ones to decide this moral issue. So what gives government the legal right to decide what is moral? I mean, are cigarettes moral even though they cause death, cancer and addiction? Is alcohol moral even though it causes addiction? If the government can't figure out the morals of cigarettes and alcohol, how will they figure out the more complicated issue of abortion? And do you want them to make this decision for you? RE: post from School Is Great - you clearly missed the point. I didn't say or even imply that a cigarette and a fetus are the same thing. I illustrated that if the government thinks cigarettes and alcohol are morally okay, then how do they have any credibility deciding what is or isn't the moral position on abortions. While you are in school, take a debate class, or learn how to answer a question from some other place besides emotion . . . . RE: post from DJ - I have no problem deciding what is moral. The question wasn't about what I would decide, the question was about how can YOU or the electorate let the government decide for YOU. God has nothing to do with the question. If the government did what God wanted it do, there would be no issue over Iraq, because we would not be there as murder is wrong.
Who do you think is more likely to win the Republican primary? Who do you think is more likely to win the Republican primary? What do you think about each of the Republicans running in the primary? I think it will come down to Rudy Giuliani or John McCain. Rudy did alot of great things for New York City and McCain seems to have a great working knowledge of foreign policies and issues. I don't think it would be wise to put any of the other republicans against Hillary or Obama. Fred Thompson, though I like him, makes exaggerated remarks that give you a feeling of too much drama. Mitt Romney just seems like a fish out of water. Ron Paul is that grouchy old man that yells at kids for ringing his doorbell on Holloween even though his porch light is on. Mike Huckabee seems to be a good guy but just isn't known well enough. The rest are ghosts, never heard of unless their name is being called during a debate and forgotten seconds after they're done speaking.
Does John McCain appeal to a wider audience than rest of Republicans? Rudy Guliani might only win primaries in the north east because he is the most liberal candidate support gay marriages, abortion, and gun control. Mike Huckabee only wins votes from evangelicals. Mitt Romney is mormon and will have some problems getting votes from christian. John McCain is only war veteran, he is moderate on social issues which gets him votes from independents and conservative democrats, he is also most experienced politician in the election.
Did Mike Huckabee show basic ignorance with his comments about quarantining AIDS patients in 1992? Here is what he said: "It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents. Any epidemiologist in 1992 had been saying for a number of years than a quarantine was not indicated due to it not being readily transmitted. Or did Huckabee make that statement because he hates homosexuals? It was well known from 1987 on that AIDS was not readily transmitted (air water ect). Yet Huckabee makes a statement about quarantining in 1992. It's not a statement which can be defended for context of the time.
Huckabee supporters, What does this mean? (attn: Ron Paul advocates!!!)? I live in Arkansas, home of former Gov. Huckabee, and I wanted to share something from a newspaper article I read recently and ask for people's thoughts and opinions on the matter. On Tuesday, January 22, the Benton County GOP held a straw poll to find out where their party's candidates stood in this predominantly Republican county in Northwest Arkansas. The first sentence in the article (emphasis is mine) reads: "GOP activists in the MOST REPUBLICAN OF ARKANSAS COUNTIES handed former Governor Mike Huckabee a THIRD-PLACE finish in a 'straw poll' ranking of their favorite presidential candidates.... RON PAUL came FIRST in the poll. Mitt Romney, one of Huckabee's chief rivals for conservative votes, also beat him, despite Huckabee's personal ties to many who voted." In my opinion, this speaks volumes about Huckabee's leadership from people who have already experienced it. Your thoughts? This was printed in the Thursday, Jan. 24 issue of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. The Democrat-Gazette is one of the two oldest publications West of the Mississippi River. It is also the largest publication in a state with a large GOP majority. The name has absolutely nothing to do with current political parties
Is Mike Huckabee genuine or a phony? My big concern is that he is using the Lord's name to get ahead. Is he using this to get himself the presidency or is he using it because he has very strong beliefs and it just happens to be a part of him? I just don't get it. Even if you are religious why would you go around talking about G-d all the time in a campaign bid? I like that he's religious, but shouldn't he be talking about the issues? I don't see how mentioning G-d all the time has anything to do with the ACTUAL campaign. Oh...I didn't hear good things about him as Governor (ie. tax hikes, a few controversies too). But to be fair everyone is going to have some baggage.
Truth Squad: Another Huckabee attack thwarted? Another 'problematic' attack on Mike Huckabee. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1207/7401.html Headline: "Huck's gift-givers ended up in state posts" Subtext: "Most of the posts Huckabee’s benefactors landed were on unpaid boards and commissions. Not all of the gifts came before the appointments — several came from old friends and there’s no clear evidence of any quid pro quo." Unpaid posts? Not exactly sinister here... ;) Question: Despite two weeks of attacks, Huckabee's numbers have only steadily increased. So the question is.... Are the attacks helping him in some way? Have the focus on ridiculous issues (AIDS, rapist, 'bribes') rather than more problematic concerns (taxes), only made Huckabee look better? Or is he rising despite these attacks(Poor performance from competition)? Please no "I hate Huck" or "I love Huck." Looking for an analysis on a debatable issue. Will report inappropriate responses.
Huckabee, a fundamentalist? Part of a subculture? A fundamentalist is a person who believes God created man. A subculture? Last time I checked, until very recently in history, virtually everyone was a fundamentalist, including our founding fathers. Therefore, everything else is a "subculture". Fundamentalist have been brainwashed? Believe what their "leaders say? I hold two doctoral degrees. DVM, and DVN. But...oh my goodness, I am also a Christian pastor. I have studied biology, genetics, DNA mapping, the geome, Darwins theory of evolution, and "natural selection". But, I have also studied Theology, Philosophy, Creationism, Intelligent design, and have read the Bible several times. Based on my studies of BOTH sides of the issue, I still believe that God is my Creator, and the Creator of the Universe, and the world. And I also support Mike huckabee. Most of the people who condemn Mike couldn't tell you the difference between RNA and DNA, and couldn't explain what the theory of evolution is, or how it is supposed to work. Fruit flies? Keep them enclosed...lol. Yes, you are so right. Every species on this planet was kept in a box, and forced to inbreed for millions of years. Do you realize how stupid you sound?
Why is Huckabee excused, while Dukasis was punished? When Michael Dukakis ran for the Presidency in 1988 on the Democratic ticket, his defeat was largely caused by the fact that George Bush, Sr. accused him of leniency where criminals are concerned. Dukakis, then Governor of Massachusetts, had released a criminal, Willie Horton, who left prison to kill again. In today's campaign, Mike Huckabee has done the same thing He approved the parole of a rapist who, after his release, went on a killing spree, raping and killing. Why is it that Republicans will approve the candidacy of a man who has done the same thing that they accused another man of doing....releasing killers from prison? Why are they so hypocritical that they will support Huckabee while deploring the fact that Dukasis made the same mistake? We all know that anyone could make a mistake in the release of a prisoner, but the fact that one political party makes a huge issue in one political campaign, while ignoring it in their own candidate is hypocritical, don't you agree?
Mike Huckabee!?!? What do yall think about him!? to me he seems like a good potential president. What i love is he came to my church to speak and instead of making it political (which is what i thought he would do) he made an amazing sermon! can someone who knows tell me where he stands on different issues
Will the Christian right lose some power in the GOP? Since 1980, the Christian right has had major influence in the Republican party. But they have had even more power since 2000 and during the George W. Bush era. Because while Reagan was able to bring them in as part of uniting the whole party, GWB has focused on them in many ways as his main electoral strategy. He focused on getting their votes in the primaries in 2000 and because of his appeal to this group has basically swept Middle America in both elections. After Bush's victory in 2004, there was much talk about the major power of these voters, how Democrats would have to learn to invoke faith if they wanted to win elections, and how the next Republican nominee would likely be in the Bush mold, a charismatic Southern candidate who can appeal to Middle Americans and the Christian right. This electoral strategy was working so they likely wanted to stick with it. Early speculation focused on former Senator George Allen of Virginia, who would be a candidate in the Bush mold. But as Bush's popularity declined, other candidates less like Bush, McCain and Giuliani, began to get more attention. Allen was defeated in the 2006 election, eliminating him from consideration and leaving the GOP field without a pure conservative frontrunner. Giuliani and Romney had both been accused of flip-flopping and McCain had never been too popular with conservatives. That was really the point of Fred Thompson coming in theoretically, to be able to sweep this crucial voting bloc which was dissatisfied with the current candidates, but Christian right leaders seem unimpressed with Thompson, who also has problems with them because he lobbied for a pro-choice group once, and if he can't get these voters then the whole point of his candidacy has really failed and I think you'll start to see his numbers drop pretty quick. What's interesting is that they're not really lining up for another candidate, like Mike Huckabee or even Sam Brownback. They are both very socially conservative but they don't seem too enthusiastic about them, they have both been considered to have "nice" personalities and don't try to bring these issues up as a wedge issue as Bush often did. Perhaps they fear that if these issues aren't sufficiently pushed that their voters won't be as encouraged to show up to the polls. But if you want to have "compassionate conservatism" as your message Huckabee would be the perfect candidate. But the Republican party seems to have a real, genuine fear of Hillary Clinton becoming President and seem to be willing to move to the center to prevent her from winning. Still, by not supporting another candidate, the Christian right, oddly, seems to be ceding some power within the GOP, the Christian right has had plenty of influence since Reagan, but probably more power than ever under George W Bush because the Rove strategy really relied on those voters.
Is Mitt Romney the "complete conservative"? Yes, I know his views have changed, I know he's "flip-flopped", and I know it's recent. So, what? Ronald Reagan changed his positions on a lot of issues, not just abortion and the Department of Education. But none of the other Republican candidates can claim that their "current" views are in line with the GOP's, either. Rudy Giuliani is a a social liberal; Mike Huckabee has spending and other domestic policy issues; John McCain has a history of moderatism, most notably his supports of immigration and campaign finance reforms; and Ron Paul isn't conservative so much as he is completely libertarian. Yes, Romney has changed his stances; but isn't that exactly what Republicans have been hoping for all this time: that people all over will "change their minds" like Romney has? The GOP should be thrilled. After all, no zealot like a convert. Read this article and tell me what you think. http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YmMxYTUyYzA1YTk2YzE5NGVmNjc0OGFjYWJmNzMzNjI=&p=1 Adam, can you tell me what exactly is wrong with Harvard? Should we be electing our president from the ranks of community college dropouts? Think of it this way: George W. Bush went to school, came out with roughly the same IQ as he went in. Mitt Romney earned a joint MBA-law degree, hard to do even by Ivy League standards. Those millions of his? He earned every dollar himself. Don't we want someone that smart handling the economy and the federal budget? Sean, I don't know if it's that you've just read Mormon Doctrine too many times or what, but that is not what the LDS Church teaches. Elder McConkie offered that as his opinion. It has never been official doctrine of the church, and it's certainly not something taught in Sunday School or Seminary classes.
What are some good questions that the presidential candidates should have to answer? I can think of a few of them. Hillary Clinton: You claim that the Iraq War is George Bush's war. Why then did you vote for it and why did your husband sign the Iraqi Liberation Act in 1998? Barack Obama: You admit that you tried pot but you are against legalization. How would you have liked it if you were caught the time when you tried it? John Edwards: Since you want to end poverty, why do you advocate programs to end poverty that have already been tried and failed miserably? Rudy Giuliani: You claim to be an expert on terrorism and other security issues, so why don't you know what blowback is? John McCain: How can you be a maverick when you support the GOP party line on most issues? Mitt Romney: Why have you flip-flopped on so many issues? Fred Thompson: Why don't you have any real grassroots support? Mike Huckabee: Why do you advocate prohibition of cigarrettes when prohibition of alcohol failed miserably? Does anybody else have any good questions for the candidates?
During the next GOP debate, who will ask Mike Huckabee if he will "suffer a witch to live"? Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. If you're going to run a campaign based upon being a fundamentalist bible-thumper, then let's not pretend that you're a reasonable man or that such questions are off limits. After all, it is Huckabee who pressed the issue.
Are "push polls" hurting Republican candidates now that Americans are catching on? Push polls were a large part of what helped Bush retain the White House in 2004: http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/articles/2004/03/21/the_anatomy_of_a_smear_campaign/ A push poll is where, using the guise of opinion polling, disinformation about a candidate or issue is planted in the minds of those being 'surveyed'. Push-polls are designed to shape, rather than measure, public opinion. Questions in recent push polls have looked something like this: On a scale of 1 to 10, how honest do you think Hillary Clinton is about her involvement in the deaths of persons who have opposed her? Which candidate do you believe is most likely to have Islamic fundamentalist relations? Which do you find to be more important, Hillary's amnesty for skilled laborers or Mike Huckabee's plan for energy independence? Say what you will, but I have not found a push poll that attacks Republicans... look at the kind of results we get on the Fox polls: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298297,00.html

We're less than a month from the first And second nominating contests for the GOP. If you want to defeat Hillary Clinton, then you'd best get interested in a hurry. Dino, one of the advantages of having $250 million of your own money is that you're no slave to special interests. Mitt Romney has never used public office to support the rights of corporations anymore than he has used it to support his church. In his religion speech, he promised to serve no cause except "the common cause" of the United States of America. You can be sure corporate America is covered by that pledge as well. Their interests are served only as long as it's in the best interests of the country itself.

Or Moses'? In fact, isn't that exactly why they had so much trouble in their times? Because they had "new prophets" and "new scriptures"? You can call Mitt Romney's beliefs crazy if you want, but don't forget how "crazy" Christianity, and religion in general, truly is. Even if you're agnostic, you can't believe that being that being religious necessarily prohibits a person from possessing and exercising good judgment. Despite everything horrible that's been done in the name of "religion", many good things have been done as well.
Thanks!

There's an old proverb that says "There are only two people who never change: the most wise, and the most foolish." Who exactly do we think we're electing?
Did you nearly die laughing as I did...? ...When, during the GOP debate, Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee in response to Ron Paul raising the issue of Iraq costing the GOP the election - Huckabee actually implied that the Republican party had ANY HONOR LEFT to lose?!?!?!? The party that still worships the arrogant brainless scumbag Bush. Give me a break... OH; GIVE ME AN F-N' BREAK; 'Open' Thoughts - Pelosi did not allow Jeferson into the committee leadership position who would have been due by seniority. And there AREN'T any other 'scandal plagued' Dems in leadership roles in the House. Number of House Democrats under investigation by ethics committee? 3 Number of Republicans? 8 And that's AFTER a bunch of the Republican crooks (DeLay, Foley, et al) lost their jobs last year! The numbers say it all.
