Election Polls Knowledge Base
Where can I get a basic overview of what candidates stand for in the election, polls? Hi there! I can't seem to find where I can get a basic overview of what each candidate stands for on certain election issues and where they stand in the polls. All I want is something that can give me a straight answer . I don't want to read a whole bunch of long drawn out answers. For instance, On abortion: Bob Casey stands this way, Rick Santorum this way. Anyone know where I could find something like that? A legitimate source, please, not some random aol page or something. Thanks! Oh btw, Make sure you 1. Vote this November and 2. KNOW WHAT THE CANDIDATE STANDS FOR, don't be a blind voter and vote for someone simply because you agee with them on ONE or TWO issues. Already checked the websites, that's a no brainer. A kindergartner could have thought of that one. They don't have that kind of info on there (at least not most most of the candidates or all of the issues.), just very general BS, like I promise this, blah blah balh. I want to know exactly where they stand rather than the beating around the bush.
Do you think that the election polls are off? Mainly because of the fact that most of the youth that are voting in this election use cell phones do not have a land line. Do you think that it may throw off polls and give McCain or Obama a misrepresentation of the vote?
Do political election polls insult your sense of uniqueness? (Like I mean, they can interview about 1500 people on the telephone, and then predict how 2 million people will vote in an election. ---) ***They just did precisely that for the Pennsylvania Presidential Primary. ---- The CNN polls predicted Clinton would win the Pennsylvania primary by 9%. Currently with 75% (1.6 million votes cast) Clinton is winning by 9%.
How do they come up with presidential election polls? How do they come up with this polls that shows the ranking of the presidential candidates? I never got asked by anybody on how I vote.. Do they at random pick people to interview? Do they make phone calls to random people? How do they get this information and how accurate is it really?
Are election polls reliable? I am talking about polls from Gallup, USA Today, CNN, etc. I see some people say that these polls are not reliable or biased.... I would have thought the poll would give a reasonable prediction of the election outcome if the election were held that day?!
Statistics on the election polls for Barrack Obama? Does anyone know a reputable website that will show me the specific statistics on the 08' presidential election? I specifically want to know what the percentage is of white people who voted for Obama and black people who voted for Obama. Thanks. Not that it's any of your business "sweetie" but it's for school. And that's "peace of mind" not "a piece of mind" MORON. You do a really good job of making yourself look stupid. To use the phrase "piece of mind" in the correct context would be to give someone "a piece of your mind" which means your opinion or what you are thinking about. Neither of which you did in responding to my factual NON OPINION question about election polls. So by you saying "whatever gives you piece of mind" you basically told me whatever gives me my own opinion or my own thoughts. So basically in either case you are extremely dumb. You either can't spell, can't understand context or you just like to use idioms because it makes you feel cool. Do you wear a shirt or hat that in bold letters says "I'M A MORON" ? if you did you wouldn't have to embarass yourself on websites like this. Oh and I think you meant Who's (as in who is) not WHOSE which is possesive. But i guess you wouldn't have KNOW that as you would say. Lol... I regret to inform you sweetie that giving me the definition of the word "whose" does not change the way you horribly mangled the word with your elementary level grammar, and no doubt disgraced your sixth grade english teacher. I do not have a thesis to write but I'm glad you found time between eating your KFC chicken drumsticks to pretend that you're smart by messaging me. You amuse me in the same way that watching gerbils in a pet store try to dig their way out of a glass cage amuses me. P.S. I hope you didn't get your keyboard too greasy in the process.
Australians only....Election Surveys and Polls? All the Election Polls and Surveys leading up to the election have Labor in front and apparently they appear to be the winners after the election based on the polls/surveys taken. What if people are saying they would prefer Labor but on election day vote Liberal just to make it appear that Labor is going to win? I know this sounds stupid but it is possible and then again that could go the other way too with people saying they would vote Liberal but vote Labor on the day. Opinions??
Does Anybody Care About the Source of Election Polls? The questions that are specifically asked? If any are leading questions? We all just take them at their face value! "Do you have this problem in Canada too?" Todays poll in Canada said we don't want any elections right now, as we are content with the balance of power, and no big concerns!
Why are citizens bringing their video cameras to the polls on election night? Starting this election, "Citizen Journalists" will document election problems if they occur. Word has spread through blogs and website that videotaping on the street is legal and interviewing is OK if permission is asked. People want to catch on tape, any obstructions to the right to vote. Tomorrow, (Thursday) HBO will begin airing "Hacking Democracy" at 9PM Eastern which shows how in 2000 and 2004, eligible voters were turned away, voters were intimidated, and not enough or broken voting equipment. Diebold, a Republican owned voting machine company tried to have the HBO film canceled. In one town, Bush received 350,000 consecutive votes! 500,000 registered names disappeared from the voter rolls. The documentary shows how when one person tried to vote, the machine kept chosing the same candidate-- on it's own! People are worried. Will any of these efforts help to protect a person's right to vote? This is a non partisan question about citizens activities
Where can I find election tracking polls from elections past? where can I find election tracking polls from elections 1968-1992? I really want to see them, so I can get an idea of how close or blowout elections have been in the last 40 years, I especially want to see 1980, to see how we got to where we are today, with Reagan.
Presidential Election Polls? Has anyone ever been actually asked to be in one of these famous polls they talk about at every election? I have never heard of anyone actually take part in these...it doesn't seem right. Given the undue influence they have...I think they should be banned....what is the point to them? The only poll should be the actual election.
Less than 5/100,000% are voting in the polls pre-election. Is there truly a frontrunner? With less than 5/100,000% of the USA is voting in the polls conducted by the pollsters to date, and many are not legal citizens. Do you think we have an accurate look at who is the frontrunner of any party in the presidential race? Pollsters will have you think they can get an accurate tell of the country. No. It is a living to them, they are earning money.
Pre-Election Polls...? What exactly do pre-elections polls hope to predict in an non-presidential election? pollings services can predict that the majority of American Public will vote Democratic, but it doesn't say anything about the number of seats that will change hands. One of the earlier polls claimed that the Dems will receive 54 percent of the votes, but that can make a difference between getting 15 or 30 seats in the house. Or am I wrong?
Prior to the November, 2000 presidential election George W. Bush had a comfortable lead in the polls. But on? Prior to the November, 2000 presidential election George W. Bush had a comfortable lead in the polls. But on election day Bush ended up losing the popular vote by a small margin (although winning the electoral vote). A. Why do you think different polls got such a wide range of estimates of Bush's lead in the polls, ranging from a 12% lead to a 4% lead? B. What sampling techniques would you use to get the most accurate estimate of which candidate would win on election day?
Do you think polls should be allowed up to election day ? For instance, in France, polls during presidential runs are banned during election day and few days before. Thus Internet, SMS and many other services are offering from neighboring countries what is locally forbidden... So, do you think that countries like France have to change their laws regarding political polls and if yes don't you think that this will turns polls into decision makers instead of indicators ?
Polls show Obama beating McCain in an election, McCain beating Hillary, so will the Democrats let McCain win? Hillary Clinton is slipping in the polls as the campaign for a Democratic nominee continues. New polls show she could not defeat John McCain head to head, but Barack Obama could and his popularity and support are growing nationwide! Will Hillary Clinton supporters hand John McCain the presidency or vote for Barack Obama and put a Democrat in the "White House" in the process? Will Obama pick Hillary as his running mate, although the Clinton's have assassinated his character in an attempt to unfairly discredit him for Hillary's benefit?
Should the media be allowed to report on pre-election polls? Where does the media get thier info on " The latest polls " ? There are people out there who vote because it is thier right and duty as an American. But if they do not know enough or care enough about the issues, they may just vote for whoever the media says is ahead in the polls. That way they can tell thier friends that they voted for the winner. Democrats only poll registerd democrats, and republicans only poll registered republicans. I guess which ever party makes the most phonecalls will be ahead in the polls! The same could be said about exit polls on election day, not everyone has voted, but we hear who is ahead.... that may swing people to vote for someone who is not qualified. It is every Americans right to vote, but you should have to take some type of short quiz before you vote just to see if you really know what is going on in this country. That would stop alot of " Wasted Votes " from people who just want the sticker that says " I VOTED! ".
What are the straw polls for 2008 presidential election? What is the straw poll? How does it work? Why does it require money? How do people get to participate in them? I have followed politics for 40 years. I remember when there were very few primaries (many were beauty contests), and delegates were chosen by caucuses and the unit rule. That has really changed. Have a candidate strongly support. Would like to vote for him in straw poll. Any information greatly appreciated.
Do people realize that general election polls this early are useless at best and deceiving at worst? Nothing against polls, but general election polls (e.g. Clinton vs. McCain, Obama vs. McCain) are historically very inaccurate when taken this far out in advance of the general election. Obama uses these polls as an argument that he is better suited to take on McCain. I'm sure Hillary would do the same if she was leading. Are the American people truly fooled by this? Are Yahoo! Answers answerers fooled? ;-) Just wondering. =) Bobby -- you have a very good point, though I'd compare it more to a sporting event (with new "graphics" and "stats" every year ... ;) than a reality show. I think polls have their place in politics, and actually the vast majority are highly accurate, in contrast to the conventional wisdom (though I do like your name, "moderates unite" ;). I just think that this particular type of poll, as shonestar points out, is historically a piece of junk. Finally, to the point that the negatives remain constant, I'd say that even they too historically change when you are *8 months* away from an election. I think your point is that Hillary has high negatives and will continue to have them, which I agree with. However, I think you will also see Obama's negatives soar as he gets into (if he gets into) a general election campaign. Great oratorical skills only go so far.
Should we get rid of exit polls? What impact would that make on an election? I think it would be a good thing. Let people vote as they want, without being influenced by the polls. I think some people just stay home if exit polls show an early win for one side or the other. People may feel it not worth going to vote if its all over anyhow, which makes the popular vote grossly innacurate. What if pre-election polls were done away with as well? Same reasoning... no pre-concieved notions on who to vote for... just your own decision based on your thought s and research. Your thoughts? Information is good.... but pre-election and exit polls are not about information on the candidates. They are a popularity contest. Nothing more.
How are election polls even remotely sensible? I do not understand how these polls are working in Texas and Ohio. They only asked 700-800 people who they will likely vote for in Texas and Ohio on March 4. Texas and Ohio are really big states and are likely to have really big turn-outs. So what does a poll really show? How can Hillary lead the polls one day and Obama the next day and so on. Really, it's anyones game at this point.
Do you trust pre-election polls? Do you think after seeing the results for yesterday's primaries, that we can never again trust polls and just have to vote our hearts (or heads)?
Obama 12 points ahead of mccain in latest election polls. is this why repub keep bashing him here all the time i think they are clearly scared of Obama as it is evident by their 24/7 feverishly bashing posts in this forum. They hardly mention Mccain at all. Ofcourse they will say that polls lie. But polls predicted accurately how the house and senate flipped in 2006. And Obama's lead on Mccain keeps growing larger and larger. Also he has 3 to 4 times the amount of cash in hand that Mccain has. Mccain took loans from banks to finance campaign. Obama never took any loan at all and is 100% financed by citizens. Also mccain supporters fail to donate the way Obama supporters do, even though mccain is all for rich people. Yet he doesn't get donation from rich too. What does this tell?
Presidential election polls question? I am currently 17 years-old. I would be 18 by the November 08' elections. However, I would like to vote in the California caucus this February. Could I vote. Yes I was born here. Were do I register to vote? Need more info. P.S Many of my fellow-classmates come to me to ask me the same question over and over. I am 20 of my fellow classmates and friend would appreciated if you could help us in this one. Thank You.
Election poll: Have you ever taken one of those political "thermometer" polls to see which candidate you best line up with? What were the results? Were you surprised, pleasantly or not? Well, I did one time a week ago, and I was aghast! According to the poll I line up Edwards, of all people. And also accordingly, I am an authoritarian just slightly to the left (Stalin) juxtapposed to the right (Hitler). YIPES! Also, I fit close the Pope Benedict IV, or whatever the number, and I am not catholic. Are party ideologies getting more confusing, or is it me? I am actually independent - lean toward monarchy in a perfect world with a perfect king as for ideology. E-me if you want the link, or post a comment in my 360 profile. (Working right now and cannot take time to search the link).
Did you see the general election polls in all 50 states? The headline was that both candidates would beat McCain. Cheers!! The deeper numbers indicate Obama would be a much better candidate. We all know what the traditional tossup states are. They will all be tossups again with either candidate. Obama turns quite a few red states into tossups (Alaska, Nebraska, North Dakota, Texas, etc.) Hillary turns quite a few blue states into tossups (Washington, Oregon, Delaware, Hawaii, etc) Somewhat surprisingly, they both win Ohio by ten points. I know that it is early and one poll can be wrong, but I would much rather fight McCain over Texas and North Dakota than over Washington and Hawaii. http://www.surveyusa.com/index.php/2008/03/06/electoral-math-as-of-030608-clinton-276-mccain-262/ http://www.surveyusa.com/index.php/2008/03/06/electoral-math-as-of-030608-obama-280-mccain-258/ This was a very comprehensive project. 30000 respondents---600 respondents in each of the 50 states.
Question about polls-Election? Polls regarding the three candidates seem to be different almost everyday... I don't go by them because they are fickle and in the past they have been proven wrong... Many polls said Kerry was going to win, but Bush won... That was an example, also the same with Bill Clinton. They are like reading day to day horoscopes in the paper to me... Do you believe in polls? Why or why not? Sage, the polls did say Kerry would win in many and several ways!
national polls in the general election? does anyone have any information or links on how the national polls you hear about on the news all the time for the general election are done? Who exactly are they polling is it random? any source would be greatly appreciated...
Polls in the general election? Every national poll taken shows Obama handily beating McCain and Hillary losing to McCain. Does the fact that one candidate has a better chance to win the election matter to you?
Scottish Election: The Greens - how well will they do considering the variability of current opinion polls? In the last Scottish election the Scottish Green Party gained 6.7% of the vote and won 7 seats in the Scottish Parliament, despite the fact that the polls were only giving them between 1% and 4% Recent opinion polls show their support varying between 3% (which would see them virtually wiped out) and 10% (which would see them making gains). Are the polls really that unrepresentative this time? Will the Greens prove the pollsters wrong again? Well said Archangel Gabriel. I completely agree with you and have the same hopes.
LIBERAL DEMOCRATS: Why Do All of the Polls Have Them Losing Yet Another Presidential Election? Here's a poll where Clinton and Obama show best, and it's still horrible. No doubt it will now be 32 of the last 44 years that Republicans have controlled the White House. For Libs to win the White House, you have to have huge leads in these nationwide polls to overcome the Southern Strategy in the Electoral College. Read and weep Anti-American Libs. Libs just aren't trusted by the population-at-large. The best Libs can ever do is win local Congressional mid-term elections, which the minority party is supposed to win--big, which Libs did not, with a 50-50 split in the Senate. Sad. Absolutely pathetic. Real Americans love it. http://americanresearchgroup.com/
AHHHH... Just 13 days before the ELECTION and the polls indicate? that a major-shift is taking place. A shift towards the Republicans!! Analysts from BOTH parties recognize the shift!! Do you like what you're hearing? or Are some of you refusing to accept the truth? I'll be watching the answers while practicing the Snoopy dance! ( head pointed upwards, nose in air, and dancing with glee... .. I want to get it right for the joyous party after the Republican VICTORY !!! dstr - How many of us will have to ask you to pay attention to the news/ any news. They are ALL talking about it. However, the lid channels are keeping it to a whisper for now. Tokoloshi - I didn't insult you and I won't. It's hard to insult, when you're practicing the Snoopy Dance. The answer man - -Must practice Snoopy Dance, while Dems are in denial. Maybe they won't awaken to the truth. Too bad! Trout - The Republican base is outraged at the idea of having Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. Nevermind the fact that she has been outted for REFUSING to HIRE UNION WORKERS AT HER VINEYARD IN CALIFORNIA. Many Dems are now pissed that she has those kind of priorities. And LIES about them. dukalink - You're right! Mr. Monkey - YES. I'm not a wasteful cynic. I don't believe in the, " Everything's a Conspiracy " theory. Proud_2ba - Ok... . ..NO COUNTING CHICKENS BEFORE THEY ARE HATCHED .... . . MAN LAW # 11. So Let It Be Written.... . So Let It Be Done! Man Law #12--NO REAL MAN SHALL VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATS. SO LET IT BE WRITTEN .. . ..SO LET IT BE DONE!! Uhh Jack, Yes 2 weeks can be a long time. I agree with that. But on the other side of the coin. If there are only 2 weeks and your party is just now beginning to surge, that's real good news for Reps and real bad news for Dems.
