Where can I find an honest biography/resume of Barack Obama? I am having trouble finding information on Barack Obama. When I go to his website he conveniently excludes things in his Bio that surface elswhere. The right wing conspiracy theorists can't be reliable source. Obama is definately not forthcoming enough for me to get the facts from him so I am wondering if anyone knows of a comprehensive detailed biography that explains his business and political experience. I have already read his website and wikipedia. They are vague. Any ideas?

Barack Hussein Obama II BIOGRAPHY Barak Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law. He majored in Political science with a specialization of in International Relations. Obama also served as a president at the Harvard Law review. He has also worked as a community organizer and practiced as a civil rights attorney before serving in the Senate in Illinois from 1997 to 2004. He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago School as well. Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996. Considering he was very well liked he was reelected for Illinois Senate in 1998 and again in 2002. He voted in favor of the Energy policy Act of 2005 and cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration act. He has also supported the bill for the Secure Fence Act. Obama has supported is the State Children’s Health Insurance Program which provides job protection for family members caring for soldiers. He has always said to withdraw American troops from Iraq and talked about energy independence. In July 2004 Obama wrote and delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention National Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. Obama considered running for the U.S senate in mid-2002 and which he actually got sworn into on January 4th, 2005. He was listed as the fifth African American senator in U.S history and third to have been popularly elected. On February 10, 2007 Obama announced his candidacy for being the president of the United States.

It turns out that Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist. In his books, Obama admits attending “socialist conferences” and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a “hard-core academic Marxist,” which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes. However, through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his “poetry” and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just “Frank.” The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. You won’t find any of this discussed in the David Mendell book, Obama: From Promise to Power. It is typical of the superficial biographies of Obama now on the market. Secret smoking seems to be Obama’s most controversial activity. At best, Mendell and the liberal media describe Obama as “left-leaning.” But you will find it briefly discussed, sort of, in Obama’s own book, Dreams From My Father. He writes about “a poet named Frank,” who visited them in Hawaii, read poetry, and was full of “hard-earned knowledge” and advice. Who was Frank? Obama only says that he had “some modest notoriety once,” was “a contemporary of Richard Wright and Langston Hughes during his years in Chicago…” but was now “pushing eighty.” He writes about “Frank and his old Black Power dashiki self” giving him advice before he left for Occidental College in 1979 at the age of 18. This “Frank” is none other than Frank Marshall Davis, the black communist writer now considered by some to be in the same category of prominence as Maya Angelou and Alice Walker. In the summer/fall 2003 issue of African American Review, James A. Miller of George Washington University reviews a book by John Edgar Tidwell, a professor at the University of Kansas, about Davis’s career, and notes, “In Davis’s case, his political commitments led him to join the American Communist Party during the middle of World War II—even though he never publicly admitted his Party membership.” Tidwell is an expert on the life and writings of Davis. Is it possible that Obama did not know who Davis was when he wrote his book, Dreams From My Father, first published in 1995? That’s not plausible since Obama refers to him as a contemporary of Richard Wright and Langston Hughes and says he saw a book of his black poetry. The communists knew who “Frank” was, and they know who Obama is. In fact, one academic who travels in communist circles understands the significance of the Davis-Obama relationship. Professor Gerald Horne, a contributing editor of the Communist Party journal Political Affairs, talked about it during a speech last March at the reception of the Communist Party USA archives at the Tamiment Library at New York University. The remarks are posted online under the headline, “Rethinking the History and Future of the Communist Party.” Horne, a history professor at the University of Houston, noted that Davis, who moved to Honolulu from Kansas in 1948 “at the suggestion of his good friend Paul Robeson,” came into contact with Barack Obama and his family and became the young man’s mentor, influencing Obama’s sense of identity and career moves. Robeson, of course, was the well-known black actor and singer who served as a member of the CPUSA and apologist for the old Soviet Union. Davis had known Robeson from his time in Chicago. As Horne describes it, Davis “befriended” a “Euro-American family” that had “migrated to Honolulu from Kansas and a young woman from this family eventually had a child with a young student from Kenya East Africa who goes by the name of Barack Obama, who retracing the steps of Davis eventually decamped to Chicago.” It was in Chicago that Obama became a “community organizer” and came into contact with more far-left political forces, including the Democratic Socialists of America, which maintains close ties to European socialist groups and parties through the Socialist International (SI), and two former members of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), William Ayers and Carl Davidson. Advertisement The SDS laid siege to college campuses across America in the 1960s, mostly in order to protest the Vietnam War, and spawned the terrorist Weather Underground organization. Ayers was a member of the terrorist group and turned himself in to authorities in 1981. He is now a college professor and served with Obama on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago. Davidson is now a figure in the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, an offshoot of the old Moscow-controlled CPUSA, and helped organize the 2002 rally where Obama came out against the Iraq War. Both communism and socialism trace their roots to Karl Marx, co-author of the Communist Manifesto, who endorsed the first meeting of the Socialist International, then called the “First International.” According to Pierre Mauroy, president of the SI from 1992-1996, “It was he [Marx] who formally launched it, gave the inaugural address and devised its structure...” Apparently unaware that Davis had been publicly named as a CPUSA member, Horne said only that Davis “was certainly in the orbit of the CP [Communist Party]—if not a member…” In addition to Tidwell’s book, Black Moods: Collected Poems of Frank Marshall Davis, confirming Davis’s Communist Party membership, another book, The New Red *****: The Literary Left and African American Poetry, 1930-1946, names Davis as one of several black poets who continued to publish in CPUSA-supported publications after the 1939 Hitler-Stalin non-aggression pact. The author, James Edward Smethurst, associate professor of Afro-American studies at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, says that Davis, however, would later claim that he was “deeply troubled” by the pact. While blacks such as Richard Wright left the CPUSA, it is not clear if or when Davis ever left the party. However, Obama writes in Dreams From My Father that he saw “Frank” only a few days before he left Hawaii for college, and that Davis seemed just as radical as ever. Davis called college “An advanced degree in compromise” and warned Obama not to forget his “people” and not to “start believing what they tell you about equal opportunity and the American way and all that ****.” Davis also complained about foot problems, the result of “trying to force African feet into European shoes,” Obama wrote. For his part, Horne says that Obama’s giving of credit to Davis will be important in history. “At some point in the future, a teacher will add to her syllabus Barack’s memoir and instruct her students to read it alongside Frank Marshall Davis’ equally affecting memoir, Living the Blues and when that day comes, I’m sure a future student will not only examine critically the Frankenstein monsters that US imperialism created in order to subdue Communist parties but will also be moved to come to this historic and wonderful archive in order to gain insight on what has befallen this complex and intriguing planet on which we reside,” he said. Dr. Kathryn Takara, a professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa who also confirms that Davis is the “Frank” in Obama’s book, did her dissertation on Davis and spent much time with him between 1972 until he passed away in 1987. John McCain's stance on college aid for military veterans into a presidential campaign cause. McCain, the all-but-nominated Republican presidential candidate, opposes a Democratic-backed bill that would significantly expand the breadth of education benefits for veterans, first adopted for those returning from World War II. Democrats want the proposal included in a war spending bill the Senate is scheduled to vote on this week. Sen. Barack Obama, McCain's most likely general election opponent, already has raised objections to McCain's resistance. And on Tuesday, a veterans' group that has been critical of the war in Iraq is launching an ad in Washington to pressure McCain to change his mind. I have to do a report on someone influential who was not a U.S. citizen..any suggestions? I have to write a report for my Honors World History class about an influential person in history who was not a U.S. citizen. I have to read a biography (at least 200 pages) and write a 4-page essay about the person. It can be anyone from an actor to a president, as long as they did something interesting enough to write 4 pages about. They have to have been born sometime between 1745 and 1960. I don't want to do someone "cliche" (Hitler, Gandhi, etc.) that everyone else in my class will probably do. I'm just not really sure where to start looking to find someone that I want to read about so any suggestions you have would be great! I'm somewhat interested in doing Barack Obama Sr. but I'm not sure if he ever gained citizenship in the United States. I also can't find any books about him besides Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama Jr., so if anyone knows of another biography that would be great! Is it relatively easy to transfer from one college to another? I always really wanted to go to Columbia University. However, I could not get in to the class of 2008. I've followed Barack Obama's history quite carefully, and he transferred from Occidental College to Columbia after his sophomore year. Now, in his biography, it was said that his grades had fallen to the level that he could not get into other more top tier universities when he was in high school. But then he graduated to not only an Ivy, but a higher tier Ivy. What must one do to get into a school such as Columbia as a transfer student? What GPA must we maintain? And do they look at SAT scores once again? Is it possible to get into Columbia as a transfer student with a strong showing in certain activities in college and a high GPA? Is there something else needed?
Is the media giving a free pass to Obama? From last nights debate it seems clear that they are at least at NBC which hosted the debate. Hillary was given the hard questions and Obama the easy ones. (can I get you a pillow, Barack) If this is so, why is it happening? Is it because news correspondents are humans too and they adore Barack and Michelle Obama and want them to win? By now they are already quite familiar with the Clinton's and are growing a little tired of them, and would now prefer to have a J.F.K. style president in the White House. They would have a chance to cover real history taking place and they probably think the Obama's would be a lot more fun to spend time covering and that they would be able to do more interesting stories and biographies of the Obama's than the Clintons. After all, they will be the ones asking them the questions for the next 4 or eight years. Is Obama's momentum and surge in popularity being driven by the press?

By Thursday, Mrs. Browner's name and biography had been removed from Socialist International's Web page, though a photo of her speaking June 30 to the group's congress in Greece was still available. Socialist International, an umbrella group for many of the world's social democratic political parties such as Britain's Labor Party, says it supports socialism and is harshly critical of U.S. policies. In the other, at 5-foot-11, as formidable and corporate as Hillary Clinton was in 1992 but more content and with a style and take on motherhood that's Clair Huxtable-meets-Jackie Kennedy: Michelle Obama. With the contest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination threatening to drag on past Super Tuesday on Feb. 5, voters outside Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina may get to see how these unconventional candidate-spouses operate. Bill Clinton needs no introduction, but Michelle Obama remains an unknown to many Americans, especially in the West. ''I'm embarrassed to say I don't know as much about her,'' said Jon Krosnick, a Stanford University professor who specializes in political psychology and has been observing how the Clintons campaign together. Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama are far more involved, at least publicly, than are the wives of the two Republican front-runners, John McCain and Mitt Romney. Each is putting in heavy rotations on the surrogate campaign trail, although Obama still tries to be home evenings and weekends with the couple's two young daughters. Both spouses have mostly been assets for their respective campaigns, but if the lead-up to the Jan. 26 South Carolina primary was any indication, Mrs. Obama and Mr. Clinton may yet draw blood. Months ago, Obama made what some read as a personal dig at Hillary Clinton, saying, ''If you can't run your own house, you can't run the White House.'' Then, when Clinton stepped up his attacks on behalf of his wife and tried to put Barack Obama in the Jesse Jackson-black candidate box, Obama charged before the TV cameras to say that, ``When power is confronted with real change, it will say anything.'' So far, Clinton has taken more media criticism -- for his attempt to suggest that he never supported the Iraq war, for hogging so much of the spotlight that Barack Obama wondered aloud whom he was running against and for playing racial politics to limit the damage of his wife's landslide loss in South Carolina, the first Southern state to vote. Obama has gotten an easier ride. Her connection with black women may have helped turn out voters who once had been torn between her husband and Hillary Clinton. But some of Obama's edgier comments could have exploded into controversy if she'd rolled them out before different audiences, say, during a general election campaign aimed at attracting swing voters. Hillary Clinton was asked about her husband's role at the Thursday night Democratic debate in California. ''He [Obama] has a spouse, too,'' she replied. ''Thankfully Michelle is not on stage,'' Barack Obama interjected. ``I'm sure she could tell some stories as well.'' Clinton summed it up: ``Well, one thing I think is fair to say: Both Barack and I have very passionate spouses. . . .'' ''We do, no doubt,'' Obama said. ''. . . who promote and defend us at every turn. . . . But the fact is that I'm running for president, and this is my campaign,'' Clinton declared, to applause. Michelle Obama's frustration at the personal and career sacrifices she's making for her husband is palpable, even though she says she's willing to give up something for the opportunity to leave a mark on history. And her calculation to put her husband in his place at times, talking publicly about his sloppiness or how their daughters find him too stinky in the morning, isn't something you'd expect from, say, Lady Bird Johnson or Laura Bush. Krosnick said that Bill Clinton and Obama reflect ``an increasing trend toward spouses being involved in campaigns. I think it's a reflection of the women's movement. Women are running major corporations now. It's something that is just a fact of life, so the idea that smart effective politicians would be married to smart, effective professionals who don't just sit quietly at home, that's going to be normal.'' Both trained as lawyers, Clinton and Obama are verbally adept, with the ability to scathe, uplift or empathize on and off-script. But either spouse could become a liability, Krosnick said, especially in the general election -- Clinton because of how much Republicans revile him and Obama because she's unpredictable and doesn't have much experience in the national spotlight. ''As this thing goes on, every single word becomes vital,'' Krosnick said. Carl Sferrazza Anthony, a biographer of first ladies and historian for the National First Ladies' Library in Canton, Ohio, said that Clinton and Obama both are ''pivotal'' figures in their spouses' campaigns. But he sees them as fundamentally different. Anthony considers Obama a grounding force for her husband. Growing up in a working-class black Chicago neighborhood, her experience as an African American is more typical than Barack Obama's biracial childhood in Hawaii and Indonesia. Her ascendancy to Harvard Law School and the business world, as a hospital executive, arguably is more hard-won. While her biography may be atypical for a candidate's spouse, her style on the trail isn't unprecedented. Anthony sees strains of Florence Harding, who brought her experiences as a divorcee and businesswoman to the trail in advocating her husband's understanding of women's challenges in 1920. Anthony also sees strains of Jackie Kennedy and Hillary Clinton in Obama. Clinton's experience as a past president and his political acumen are unprecedented in a candidate's spouse, Anthony said. In contrast, he said, Obama seems interested in public policy, but ``I don't think she has a natural instinctive interest in the art of politics at all. I don't think she has been politically ambitious.'' A Pew poll last October found that Clinton's presence could cut both ways in his wife's campaign. Asked whether his influence on a Hillary Clinton presidency would be a positive or a negative, most people considered him a plus, 64 percent to 19 percent. But asked whether they liked the idea of Clinton being back in the White House, Americans had a more divided reaction, with 45 percent saying they liked the idea and 33 percent disliking it. Neither national polling groups nor Illinois organizations have been asking, and Obama's own aides say they're not aware of any data on her favorability.
