What Do You Think Of This About HIllary Clinton? DICK MORRIS' ANALYSIS OF BILL CLINTON'S BIO ABOUT HILLARY--- BILL CLINTON LEAVES TRUTH OUT OF HILLARY'S BIOGRAPHY---- Check out Bill Clinton's syrupy five minute ad for Hillary. He introduces the commercial by saying that he wants to share some things we may not know about Hillary's background. Bill's version of her biography is about as reliable as if it appeared in Bravda! So, since I, Dick Morris, was there for most of Bill's presidency and know them better than just about anyone, I need to make a few corrections; Bill says: Hillary never wanted to run for public office, but she did want to work at public service. The facts are: When Clinton was considering not running for another term as Governor of Arkansas in 1990, Hillary said she would run if he didn't. She and Bill even had me take two‚ surveys to assess her chances of winning. The conclusion was that she couldn't win because people would just see her as a seat warmer for when Bill came back licking his wounds after losing for president. So she didn't run. Bill did and won. There is no question she had her eye on public office, As opposed to service, longggg ago. Bill says: In law school Hillary worked on legal services for the poor. The facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a federal agent. She went to court every day as part of a law student monitoring committee trying to spot civil rights violations and develop grounds for appeal. Bill says: Hillary spent a year after graduation working on a children's rights‚ project for poor kids. The facts are: Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. She met Bob when he represented the Panthers and traveled all the way to San Francisco to take an internship with him. Bill says: Hillary could have written her own job ticket, but she turned down all the lucrative job offers. The facts are: She flunked the DC bar exam and only passed the Arkansas bar. She had no job offers in Arkansas and only got hired by the University of Arkansas Law School at Fayetteville because Bill was already teaching there. She only joined the prestigious Rose Law Firm after Bill became Attorney General and made partner only after he was elected governor. Bill says: President Carter appointed Hillary to the Legal Services Board of Directors and she became its chairman. The facts are: The appointment was in exchange for Bill's support for Carter in his 1980 primary against Ted Kennedy. Hillary became chairman in a coup in which she won a majority away from Carter's choice to be chairman. Bill says: She served on the board of the Arkansas Children's Hospital. The facts are: Yes she did. But her main board activity, not mentioned by Bill, was to sit on the Wal-mart board of directors, for a substantial fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices as a Wal-Mart board member. Bill says: Hillary didn't succeed at getting health care for all Americans in 1994, but she kept working at it and helped to create the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that provides five million children with health insurance. The facts are: Hillary had nothing to do with creating CHIP. It was included in the budget deal between Clinton and Republican Majority Leader Senator Trent Lott. I, Bill Morris, helped to negotiate the deal. The money came half from the budget deal and half from t he Attorney Generals' tobacco settlement. Hillary had nothing to do with either source of funds. Bill says: Hillary was the face of America all over the world. The facts are: Her visits were part of a program to get her out of town so that Bill would not appear weak by feeding stories that Hillary was running the White House. Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and symbolic and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them. Bill says: Hillary was an excellent Senator who kept fighting for children's and women's issues. The facts are: Other than totally meaningless legislation like changing the names on courthouses and post offices, she has passed only four substantive pieces of legislation. One, set up a national park in Puerto Rico . A second provided respite care for family members helping their relatives through Alzheimer's or other conditions. And two were routine bills to aid 9-11 victims and responders which were sponsored by the entire NY delegation. Here is what bothers me more than anything else about Hillary Clinton. She has done everything possible to weaken the President and our country (that's you and me!) when it comes to the war on terror. 1. She wants to close GITMO & move the combatants to the USA where they would have access to our legal system. 2. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of suspected Al Qeada phone calls to/from the USA. 3. She wants to grant constitutional rights to enemy combatants captured on the battlefield. 4. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of money transfers between suspected Al Qeada cells & supporters in the USA . 5. She wants to eliminate the type of interrogation tactics used by the military & CIA where coercion might be used when questioning known terrorists, even though such tactics might save American lives. I can't think of a single bill Hillary has introduced or a single comment she has made that would tend to strengthen our country in the War on Terror. But, I can think of a lot of comments she has made that weakens our country & makes it a more dangerous situation for all of us........ She goes hand in hand with the ACLU on far too many issues where common sense is abandoned. She is a disaster for all Americans.
What do the you think of this biography of Hillary? This is kind of a response to the person who asked what Hillary's qualifications for president were. I think that it is pretty good because it is neither flattering or damning. Here's the link http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/usa/hillary-clinton/ It's not a book, it's a short bio on a web site, and as I said it's pretty much unbiased as far as I can tell. (of course the far right will think it too soft and the far left will think it too harsh)

Why did Obama and Hillary both embarrass us so badly this week? Unfortunately for us we couldn't count on the Obama Administration to simply destroy our economy and be happy with that, no they had a week of Foreign Relations errors as well! After the embarrassment of President Obama returning a bust of Winston Churchill to the Brits, (something seen as an insult to the British people), President Obama met this week with Gordon Brown the British Prime Minister who upon their first meeting gave President Obama the following thoughtful gifts: An ornamental desk pen holder made from the oak timbers of Victorian anti-slaver HMS Gannet, once named HMS President. The framed commission for HMS Resolute, a vessel that came to symbolize Anglo-US peace when it was saved from ice packs by Americans and given to Queen Victoria. and finally A first edition set of the seven-volume classic biography of Churchill by Sir Martin Gilbert. Now all of these wonderful gifts were obviously well thought out and given with great respect to President Obama. However, it became obvious that that respect was a one way street when President Obama in return gave a DVD boxed set of classic American movies in spite of the fact that Prime Minister Gordon Brown is not a movie buff! As if to add insult to injury, Michelle Obama also gave PM Gordon Brown plastic toy replicas of Marine One from the White House gift shop to give to his kids. What an embarrassment! Not to be outdone of course, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov a "Reset Button" that was supposed to be a backhanded slap at President Bush. Not only was this a gift of poor taste and unnecessarily insulting to our former President, but she neglected to have the Russian word printed on the button verified. Instead of "Reset", the button actually read "Overload" in Russian. How ironic as I am already on "Overload" with the entire Obama Administration! President Obama's only achievements so far seem to be tanking the Stock Market, devaluing our currency, mortgaging our children's future and embarrassing us in the eyes of the International community. He has only been in office a little over a month...I don't even want to think about what things are going to look like in two years! http://www.thehotjoints.com/2009/03/05/commander-in-cheap-obamas-crappy-gifts-to-gordon-brown/ http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090307/od_afp/russiausdiplomacyoffbeat_20090307074740 Shage: Do you actually know anything about the history of gifts between heads of state and what happens to the gifts the President is given or did you forget to unzip your fly so your brain could get oxygen?
I thought Foreign Relations were supposed to be what Obama and Hillary know best? British Prime Minister Gordon Brown gave Obama the following gifts: An ornamental desk pen holder made from the oak timbers of Victorian anti-slaver HMS Gannet, once named HMS President The framed commission for HMS Resolute, a vessel that came to ssymbolize Anglo-US peace when it was saved from ice packs by Americans and given to Queen Victoria. Obama Ties '08 Bid to Lincoln's Legacy Last Edited: Saturday, 10 Feb 2007, 4:05 PM PST Created: Saturday, 10 Feb 2007, 9:17 AM PST U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. waves to spectators as he arrives to announce his candidacy for president of the United States at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast) By NEDRA PICKLER Associated Press Writer SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Barack Obama announced his bid for president Saturday, a black man evoking Abraham Lincoln's ability to unite a nation and a Democrat portraying himself as a fresh face capable of leading a new generation. "Let us transform this nation," he told thousands shivering in the cold at the campaign's kickoff. Obama, 45, is the youngest candidate in the Democrats' 2008 primary field dominated by front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and filled with more experienced lawmakers. In an address from the state capital where he began his elective career 10 years ago, the first-term U.S. senator sought to distinguish himself as a staunch opponent of the Iraq war and a White House hopeful whose lack of political experience is an asset. "I know I haven't spent a lot of time learning the ways of Washington. But I've been there long enough to know that the ways of Washington must change," Obama said to some of the loudest applause of his 20-minute speech. Obama is looking to cap his remarkable, rapid rise to prominence with the biggest political prize of all -- the presidency. His elective career began just 10 years ago in the Illinois Legislature. He lost a bid for a U.S. House seat, then won the Senate seat in 2004, a relatively smooth election made easier by GOP stumbles. In his speech, Obama did not mention his roots as the son of a man from Kenya and a woman from Kansas, his childhood in Hawaii and Indonesia or the history he would make if elected. That compelling biography has turned him into a political celebrity.
How do you react to the news item:Spouse vs. spouse: Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama go for the unconventional MCCLATCHY NEWSPAPERS Spouse vs. spouse: Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama go for the unconventional Posted on Fri, Feb. 01, 2008 BY MARGARET TALEV mtalev@mcclatchydc.com WASHINGTON -- In one corner, at 6-foot-2, with the bulbous nose, the silver hair, the global resume and the I-feel-your-pain grin: former President Bill Clinton. In the other, at 5-foot-11, as formidable and corporate as Hillary Clinton was in 1992 but more content and with a style and take on motherhood that's Clair Huxtable-meets-Jackie Kennedy: Michelle Obama. With the contest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination threatening to drag on past Super Tuesday on Feb. 5, voters outside Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina may get to see how these unconventional candidate-spouses operate. Bill Clinton needs no introduction, but Michelle Obama remains an unknown to many Americans, especially in the West. ''I'm embarrassed to say I don't know as much about her,'' said Jon Krosnick, a Stanford University professor who specializes in political psychology and has been observing how the Clintons campaign together. Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama are far more involved, at least publicly, than are the wives of the two Republican front-runners, John McCain and Mitt Romney. Each is putting in heavy rotations on the surrogate campaign trail, although Obama still tries to be home evenings and weekends with the couple's two young daughters. Both spouses have mostly been assets for their respective campaigns, but if the lead-up to the Jan. 26 South Carolina primary was any indication, Mrs. Obama and Mr. Clinton may yet draw blood. Months ago, Obama made what some read as a personal dig at Hillary Clinton, saying, ''If you can't run your own house, you can't run the White House.'' Then, when Clinton stepped up his attacks on behalf of his wife and tried to put Barack Obama in the Jesse Jackson-black candidate box, Obama charged before the TV cameras to say that, ``When power is confronted with real change, it will say anything.'' So far, Clinton has taken more media criticism -- for his attempt to suggest that he never supported the Iraq war, for hogging so much of the spotlight that Barack Obama wondered aloud whom he was running against and for playing racial politics to limit the damage of his wife's landslide loss in South Carolina, the first Southern state to vote. Obama has gotten an easier ride. Her connection with black women may have helped turn out voters who once had been torn between her husband and Hillary Clinton. But some of Obama's edgier comments could have exploded into controversy if she'd rolled them out before different audiences, say, during a general election campaign aimed at attracting swing voters. Hillary Clinton was asked about her husband's role at the Thursday night Democratic debate in California. ''He [Obama] has a spouse, too,'' she replied. ''Thankfully Michelle is not on stage,'' Barack Obama interjected. ``I'm sure she could tell some stories as well.'' Clinton summed it up: ``Well, one thing I think is fair to say: Both Barack and I have very passionate spouses. . . .'' ''We do, no doubt,'' Obama said. ''. . . who promote and defend us at every turn. . . . But the fact is that I'm running for president, and this is my campaign,'' Clinton declared, to applause. Michelle Obama's frustration at the personal and career sacrifices she's making for her husband is palpable, even though she says she's willing to give up something for the opportunity to leave a mark on history. And her calculation to put her husband in his place at times, talking publicly about his sloppiness or how their daughters find him too stinky in the morning, isn't something you'd expect from, say, Lady Bird Johnson or Laura Bush. Krosnick said that Bill Clinton and Obama reflect ``an increasing trend toward spouses being involved in campaigns. I think it's a reflection of the women's movement. Women are running major corporations now. It's something that is just a fact of life, so the idea that smart effective politicians would be married to smart, effective professionals who don't just sit quietly at home, that's going to be normal.'' Both trained as lawyers, Clinton and Obama are verbally adept, with the ability to scathe, uplift or empathize on and off-script. But either spouse could become a liability, Krosnick said, especially in the general election -- Clinton because of how much Republicans revile him and Obama because she's unpredictable and doesn't have much experience in the national spotlight. ''As this thing goes on, every single word becomes vital,'' Krosnick said. Carl Sferrazza Anthony, a biographer of first ladies and historian for the National First Ladies' Library in Canton, Ohio, said that Clinton and Obama both are ''pivotal'' figures in their spouses' campaigns. But he sees them as fundamentally different. Anthony considers Obama a grounding force for her husband. Growing up in a working-class black Chicago neighborhood, her experience as an African American is more typical than Barack Obama's biracial childhood in Hawaii and Indonesia. Her ascendancy to Harvard Law School and the business world, as a hospital executive, arguably is more hard-won. While her biography may be atypical for a candidate's spouse, her style on the trail isn't unprecedented. Anthony sees strains of Florence Harding, who brought her experiences as a divorcee and businesswoman to the trail in advocating her husband's understanding of women's challenges in 1920. Anthony also sees strains of Jackie Kennedy and Hillary Clinton in Obama. Clinton's experience as a past president and his political acumen are unprecedented in a candidate's spouse, Anthony said. In contrast, he said, Obama seems interested in public policy, but ``I don't think she has a natural instinctive interest in the art of politics at all. I don't think she has been politically ambitious.'' A Pew poll last October found that Clinton's presence could cut both ways in his wife's campaign. Asked whether his influence on a Hillary Clinton presidency would be a positive or a negative, most people considered him a plus, 64 percent to 19 percent. But asked whether they liked the idea of Clinton being back in the White House, Americans had a more divided reaction, with 45 percent saying they liked the idea and 33 percent disliking it. How would America receive a first lady Michelle Obama? Pollsters say they don't know. Neither national polling groups nor Illinois organizations have been asking, and Obama's own aides say they're not aware of any data on her favorability. After Super Tuesday, however, if Barack Obama's ahead, you can be sure such polls will emerge.

She was later replaced by James Comey. Comey found no grounds to indict Clinton. Congress, however, recognizes that the FALN is responsible for "6 deaths and the permanent maiming of dozens of others, including law enforcement officials." All of the 16 had served 19 years or longer in prison, which was a longer sentence than such crimes typically received, according to the White House.[citation needed] Clinton offered clemency, on condition that the prisoners renounce violence, at the appeal of 10 Nobel Peace Prize laureates, President Jimmy Carter, the cardinal of New York, and the archbishop of Puerto Rico. The commutation was opposed by U.S. Attorney's Office, the FBI, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons and criticized by many including former victims of FALN terrorist activities, the Fraternal Order of Police,[4] members of Congress, and Hillary Clinton in her campaign for Senator.[5] Congress condemned the action, with a vote of 95-2 in the Senate and 311-41 in the House.[6][7] The U.S. House Committee on Government Reform held an investigation on the matter, but the Justice Department prevented FBI officials from testifying.[8] President Clinton cited executive privilege for his refusal to turn over some documents to Congress related to his decision to offer clemency to members of the FALN terrorist group. [edit] Edgar and Vonna Jo Gregory pardons In March 2000, Bill Clinton pardoned Edgar and Vonna Jo Gregory, owners of the carnival company United Shows International, for charges of bank fraud from a 1982 conviction (the couple were already out of jail, but the prior conviction prevented them from doing business transactions in certain states). First Lady Hillary Clinton's youngest brother, Tony Rodham, was an acquaintance of the Gregorys, and had lobbied Clinton on their behalf.[9] In October 2006, the group Judicial Watch filed a request with the U.S. Justice Department for an investigation, alleging that Rodham had received $107,000 from the Gregorys for the pardons, in the form of loans that were never repaid, as part of a quid pro quo scheme.[10] [edit] Pardons and commutations signed on final day in office Clinton issued 140 pardons as well as several commutations on his last day of office (January 20, 2001).[11] When a sentence is commuted, the conviction remains intact, but the sentence can be altered in a number of ways. Some controversial actions include the following: Carlos A. Vignali had his sentence for cocaine trafficking commuted, after serving 6 of 15 years in federal prison. Almon Glenn Braswell was pardoned of his mail fraud and perjury convictions, even while a federal investigation was underway regarding additional money laundering and tax evasion charges.[12] Braswell and Carlos Vignali each paid approximately $200,000 to Hillary Clinton's brother, Hugh Rodham, to represent their respective cases for clemency. Hugh Rodham returned the payments after they were disclosed to the public.[citation needed] Braswell would later invoke the Fifth Amendment at a Senate Committee hearing in 2001, when questioned about allegations of his having systematically defrauded senior citizens of millions of dollars.[13] Marc Rich, a fugitive, was pardoned of tax evasion, after clemency pleas from Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, among many other international luminaries. He was required to pay a $100 million dollar fine and waive any use of the pardon as a defense against any future civil charges that were filed against him in the same case. Critics complained that Denise Rich, his former wife, had made substantial donations to the Clinton library and to Mrs. Clinton's senate campaign. Emails uncovered during the course of the investigation revealed that her final donation was provided a year before Scooter Libby requested that she approach Clinton for a pardon. According to Paul Volcker's independent investigation of Iraqi Oil-for-Food kickback schemes, Marc Rich was a middleman for several suspect Iraqi oil deals involving over 4 million barrels of oil.[14] Susan McDougal, who had already completed her sentence, was pardoned for her role in the Whitewater scandal; McDougal had served 18 months on contempt charges for refusing to testify about Clinton's role. Dan Rostenkowski, a former Democratic Congressman convicted in the Congressional Post Office Scandal. Rostenkowski had served his entire sentence. Melvin J. Reynolds, a Democratic Congressman from Illinois, who was convicted of bank fraud, 12 counts of sexual assault, obstruction of justice, and solicitation of child pornography had his sentence commuted on the bank fraud charged and was allowed to serve the final months under the auspices of a half way house. He had served his entire sentence on child sex abuse charges before the commutation of the later convictions. Roger Clinton, the president's half-brother, on drug charges after having served the entire sentence more than a decade before. Roger Clinton would be charged with drunk driving and disorderly conduct in an unrelated incident within a year of the pardon.[15] He was also briefly alleged to have been utilized in lobbying for the Braswell pardon, among others. However, no wrongdoing was uncovered. On Feb. 18, 2001, Clinton wrote a New York Times column defending the 140 pardons.[16] [edit] See also
can u please summarize this article? i dont understand it. Silver-tongued vs. eloquent: Do voters know the difference? BYLINE: Bob Katz SECTION: OPINION; Pg. 9 LENGTH: 755 words DATELINE: Lexington, MAss. With Super Tuesday upon us, and its blizzard of last-minute candidate speech making, it's time to finally face the question: What importance do voters actually place on a politician's oratorical skill? This essential quality, about which Americans are deeply conflicted and in denial, has rightly surged to center stage in this year's Democratic primary race. There are two main reasons for this. First, the meteoric rise of Barack Obama Enhanced Coverage LinkingBarack Obama -Search using: Biographies Plus News News, Most Recent 60 Days is largely attributable to a single speech he delivered four years ago at the national party convention in Boston. There may be no other American political figure whose career has been so profoundly enhanced by one instance of oratory. Second, Hillary Rodham Clinton Enhanced Coverage LinkingHillary Rodham Clinton -Search using: Biographies Plus News News, Most Recent 60 Days has taken pains to undercut Senator Obama Enhanced Coverage LinkingSenator Obama -Search using: Biographies Plus News News, Most Recent 60 Days by accusing him of dazzling voters with fancy rhetorical flourishes. "Words are not action," Senator Clinton Enhanced Coverage LinkingSenator Clinton -Search using: Biographies Plus News News, Most Recent 60 Days asserted in the final New Hampshire debate. "As beautifully presented and passionately felt as they are, they are not action." Admittedly, Clinton's remarks were mostly a tactical ploy (her husband was often similarly accused, and for similar reasons). Nonetheless, she has inadvertently highlighted our troubled attitude concerning the value of political public speaking. Americans believe that oratorical skill is a legitimate reflection of intellectual acuity and depth of character. Then again, we believe it also is merely a form of flimflam, a practiced slickness shrewdly employed by those wishing to distract us from substantive shortcomings. The notion of the "good talker" has long vexed Americans. Eloquent and slick are often perceived as two sides of the same coin, and our history contains as many examples of being bamboozled by inspiring charlatans as being inspired by bona fide visionaries. Yet most of us believe there's a correlation, and possibly a very strong one, between verbal skill and intellectual aptitude. On the other hand, most of us know good people who are not particularly good with words, and bright individuals who regularly stumble and stutter. Some may prefer straight talk, but "plain-spoken" remains a mark of praise mostly when it describes someone's integrity, not their speaking style. Regardless, speeches, debates, and press conferences remain a vital means by which we can gain an unfiltered glimpse of who these candidates are and how they express themselves in formats that are not wholly under their control. This is especially true in the up-close-and-personal church basements and the high school gyms of the primaries. Despite the central role of the spoken word in political campaigns, most voters are woefully ill-equipped to judge candidates on the basis of their ability to give speeches. We rarely attend speeches or lectures except in mandatory classroom or business settings, and have about as much framework for forming critical opinions concerning whether an orator is sharp or lame, sincere or deceptive, as we would about the finer points of ballet. We do ourselves serious harm with this inexperience, detachment, and inattention. Unable to formulate opinions that go much beyond blind hunches, we resort to a range of sloppy, superficial proxy considerations like the one that seems to have delivered us President Bush: a good ole boy we'd like to plunk down and have a coke with. The joke, of course, is on us. We'll never get a chance to kick our feet up with the prez. But we are certainly going to listen to him or her, over and over, give speeches, confront the press, and explain - in words - what lies ahead. For better or worse, we are electing the "president of the spoken word." Voting for a candidate based solely on speaking ability would be folly. But to dismiss such a capability as incidental or unimportant leaves a mighty large gap in the checklist of virtues we hunger to assess in our would-be political leaders. And that gap will almost certainly be filled by characteristics - such as compassion - that are less relevant to the real demands of the job and a lot harder to pin down. Spoken words, slight as they are, still represent our best opportunity to "know" these candidates better an opportunity than TV ads, celebrity endorsements, spit-polished resumes and rejiggered position papers can provide. Yet without voters prepared to be discerning listeners, it will be an opportunity squandered. * Bob Katz has written widely about public speaking. Is Sarah Palin a good choice? McCain’s Baked Alaska By GAIL COLLINS Published: August 30, 2008 DENVER Columnist Biography: Gail Collins It is conceivable that some people will think John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be his running mate because she is a woman. I know you find this shocking, but I swear I have heard it mentioned. McCain does not believe in pandering to identity politics. He was looking for someone who was well prepared to fight against international Islamic extremism, the transcendent issue of our time. And in the end he decided that in good conscience, he was not going to settle for anyone who had not been commander of a state national guard for at least a year and a half. He put down his foot! The obvious choice was Palin, the governor of Alaska, whose guard stands as our last best defense against possible attack by the resurgent Russian menace across the Bering Strait. Also a woman, but that’s totally beside the point. True, the only nonfamily members other than McCain that Palin really mentioned in her introductory speech were Democrats Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Whatever happened to Ronald Reagan? Isn’t there a rule that you have to mention Ronald Reagan? “It was rightly noted in Denver that Hillary made 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America,” Palin said. “It turns out the women of America aren’t finished yet, and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all.” O.K., the women thing might have been a little bit of a selling point. Not nearly so much as the national guard commandership, of course. But if the millions of Democratic women who are still ticked off at Obama for stepping in front of Hillary in the line want to look elsewhere ... John McCain has a low opinion of the vice presidency, which he’s frequently described as a job that involves attending funerals and checking on the health of the president. (Happy 72nd birthday, John!) There’s a lot we don’t know yet about Palin, and I am personally looking forward to deconstructing her role in the Matanuska Maid Dairy closing crisis. But at first glance, she doesn’t seem much less qualified than Tim Pawlenty, the governor of Minnesota who most people thought was the most likely pick. Unlike Joe Lieberman, Palin is a member of the same party as the presidential candidate. And unlike Mitt Romney, she has never gone on vacation with the family dog strapped to the roof of the car. However, I do feel kind of ticked off at the assumptions that the Republicans seem to be making about female voters. It’s a tad reminiscent of the Dan Quayle selection, when the first George Bush’s advisers decided they could close the gender gap with a cute running mate. The idea that women are going to race off to vote for any candidate with the same internal plumbing is both offensive and historically wrong. When the sexes have parted company in modern elections, it’s generally been because women are more likely to be Democrats, and more concerned about protecting the social safety net. “The gender gap traditionally has been determined by party preference, not by the gender of the candidate,” said Ruth Mandel of the Eagleton Institute of Politics. Over the last week, we have heard over and over and over that Tuesday was the anniversary of the day women got the right to vote. (They got it when a state representative in Tennessee, where the House was split on the ratification issue, changed his vote because his mother wrote him a letter telling him to shape up. That’s a story that I would love to get into, but, unfortunately, right now we have Sarah Palin to deal with.) After that big moment of enfranchisement, women went through a long period in the desert where they had the vote but not much else. Then came the great revolutions of the 1970s, when all the assumptions about the natural divisions between the sexes were challenged. During that era, women could be excited and moved by symbolic candidacies that promised a better, more inclusive future, like Shirley Chisholm’s presidential race and Geraldine Ferraro’s presence on the Democratic national ticket. This year, Hillary Clinton took things to a whole new level. She didn’t run for president as a symbol but as the best-prepared candidate in the Democratic pack. Whether you liked her or not, she convinced the nation that women could be qualified to both run the country and be commander in chief. That was an enormous breakthrough, and Palin’s nomination feels, in comparison, like a step back. If she’s only on the ticket to try to get disaffected Clinton supporters to cross over, it’s a bad choice. Joe Biden may already be practicing his drop-dead line for the vice-presidential debate: “I know Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is a friend of mine, and governor, you’re no Hillary Clinton.”
Who agrees that in her quest for socialized health care, this story illustrates the depths of secrecy? Memo suggests Clinton "use classic opposition research" to attack those who were excluded by the Clinton Administration from Task Force deliberations & to "expose lifestyles, tactics and motives of lobbyists" in order to deflect criticism. News groups "are anxious and willing to receive guidance from Clinton on how to time and shape their news coverage." The memorandum notes the development of an "interest group data base" detailing whether or not groups "supported us in the election." The database would also track personal information about interest group leaders, such as their home phone numbers, addresses, "biographies, analysis of credibility in the media, & known relationships with Congresspeople." "These documents paint a disturbing picture of how Hillary Clinton & the administration approached health care reform: secrecy, smears, & the misuse of government computers to track private & political information on citizens. http://www.standardnewswire.com/news/8982160.html
Is the media giving a free pass to Obama? From last nights debate it seems clear that they are at least at NBC which hosted the debate. Hillary was given the hard questions and Obama the easy ones. (can I get you a pillow, Barack) If this is so, why is it happening? Is it because news correspondents are humans too and they adore Barack and Michelle Obama and want them to win? By now they are already quite familiar with the Clinton's and are growing a little tired of them, and would now prefer to have a J.F.K. style president in the White House. They would have a chance to cover real history taking place and they probably think the Obama's would be a lot more fun to spend time covering and that they would be able to do more interesting stories and biographies of the Obama's than the Clintons. After all, they will be the ones asking them the questions for the next 4 or eight years. Is Obama's momentum and surge in popularity being driven by the press?
Hillary Clinton? If you vote for her i think your either immoral, lack knowledge, dumb, or someone is bribing you. Automatically no way around it. What will Hillary Clinton give back? try denying anything i say supports homosexuality by allowing gay marriages supports Amnesty supports Social groups guarenteed Raising Taxes will leave War on Terrorism and taxes will still go up. Voted for the war and the PATRIOT ACT twice, then blaming it all on Bush, Cheney and the people of the U.S. Only to oppose it for her popularity. Made racist statements such as "if more middle aged white women had HIV instead of black, there would be an uproar" She made statements toward teenagers and kids how they are punks and dont work hard. A person who wrote an biography on her making it onesided for her even admited that she is robotic when she is alone. Her husband cheated on her, doesnt that say anything at all? I gave multiple facts and left it open to discuss. im not a ignorant person.
Hillary Clinton? Ok, so for english class we're doing a biography report, and I picked her. This is what I need: A 5 paragaph essay, focusing on the thesis, which would have an idea of 3 major concepts about her. (it has to be DETAILED information, like stats, etc) So I thought about it for a while, and I decided that the 3 concepts would be a) her life as a first lady (how she contributed) b) her life as the New York senator (what important bills she helped pass, etc. and c) the present: her running for president. Can anyone help me find good sources online with information pertaining to above? (I have a book on her, but it only focuses on the aspect that shes running for president.) keep in mind that it cant be political, more like factual. we're writing the essay in class tomorrow! thanks in advance! :] if any of you guys have knowledge in this area, without a source, that would be helpful too!
